Goblet of Fire Fan Reviews
By Meg
After seeing the movie about, oh I dunno, twenty minutes ago (it's now 1:02 AM Friday, November 18), I still cannot even muster a coherent sentence to describe Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Since my brain and mouth are failing to work harmoniously, I have decided to type. Summing up Harry Potter in one word, I say wow. Wait no, it is so incredible, I feel I have the right to simply make up a word....... WORTHY OF JKROWLINGS NOVELS . Like Fred and George, try saying that five times fast. WORT--- just kidding. :-D
But jokes aside, this move was cinematically, visually, emotionally, and umm action sequence..lly… …… brilliant . This onscreen mixture of bedazzlement and sheer excitement had me literally on the verge of tears (of happiness, and eventually sadness) to the point where I actually forgot that I had read the novel, I was actually in suspense and in fear of what was to come.
First off, I beg you all; please do not allow the first thirty or so minutes of this film to spoil your evening. At the beginning, I too, was angry at the things left out, but please, I BEG YOU, do not think about it so much that you forget to watch the movie. Newell makes up for all of those precious pages lost in a way that leaves the viewer in utter awe. Throughout the film, yes of course they leave a lot out, but we must acknowledge that seven hundred and thirty-four pages of reading bliss can not be told in an three hours of film. However, being perfectly honest, I did not care/mind/ or curse Newell. Rather, I propose we elect him President.
Second, I could not have been prouder of the actors and actresses. Especially Dan, Emma, Rupert, Matthew, James & Oliver, completely brought this film to a whole new level. Dan has learned how to cry (realistically), as has Emma, and Rupert is bonkers, but in a fabulous way. The trio's talent really shines through this film; after all book four had brought them a greater challenge, one that they met, how you say, very successfully. Matthew Lewis, and James & Oliver Phelps were simply hilarious. Everyone in the theater was laughing hysterically. The Actors were definitely no bore. Oh, and how could I forget to bow down to the mighty Miranda Richardson. No one on the face of this planet could capture Rita Skeeter like she has. Hats off to you Miss Richardson.
Now this would be a bloody awful film review if I did not mention the special effects and cinematography of this film. Three words: realistic, realistic, realistic . From the dragon (which scared the crapola out of me), to the underwater lake scene, to the maze, I have to honestly say that after the CGI mess of movie three, Harry Potter Four has bounced back triumphantly. Literally. Even if you hate Harry Potter (which I doubt you would, if you are on a fan site reading editorials) this film is worth seeing simply because it was so well done.
Now please do not stone me or attack me in the reviews, but there was one thing I did find very wrong in the film. I thought the ending really went unexplained. Of course us Harry Potter buffs would not even notice this, but to someone who has not enjoyed the text, the ending would have left me a bit vexed. The whole situation is not thoroughly explained out, we don't see the talk between Harry and Dumbledore (I mean a serious talk, like the one at the end of book four.) However, this is a teensie weensie little microscopic fly in the ointment.
If you have not all ready done so, GO SEE THIS FILM. If you have, GO SEE IT AGAIN. Heheh, I know I will.
