Goblet of Fire Fan Reviews

By Sarah

The beginning sort of confused me...later I figured out though that combined the first ch. of book w/ the other part of the book where Barty Crouch Jr. is recruited to bring HP to Voldemort. Then there was only 2 minutes of Quidditch cup. They completely took out the muggles, the true reason for the campsite at Quidditch cup being ruined by death eaters, not their supposed journey to find Harry. Emma Watson was overly emotional (good actress, she just went a bit too far in my opinion). All of the boys in film practically have the same tarzan like hair cut that looks really retarded. I hate Michael Gamdon playing Dumbledore. Richard Harris was so perfect! I really hate that he died. Michael Gamdon leaves out all the neccessary warmth and humor that the character of Dumbledore possesses. I think it's also stupid that they left out the houseelves. I understand not including S.P.E.W. but they still could of included houseelves. The beginning part of the movie went by too fast in my opinion. Yes the triwizard tournament is the central plot of book, but they still could of slowed down a lil' bit. The way Harry found out about the dragon was pretty accurate except for the whole Ron knowing about the dragons thing. It's one thing to cut stuff from the book in the film, it's another thing to add all this inaccurate crap to it. Ron didn't know about the dragons. Yes, his brother did help out w/ them but...ugh...that really annoys me. They drug out the Hungarian horntail sequence though; technically, Harry and the dragon never left the arena.

Since they left houseelves outta the movie, of course they had to come up with some other way for Harry to get the gillyweed. The maze was so retarded! Why on earth did they make the maze move and do all that other crap that it never did in the books? Technically, there were sphinxes, blast ended skrewts, etc in the maze. And where was Cedric's mom and Ludo Bagman? Maybe the maze ate them. It seemed like most of the time, a lot of the actors were speaking their lines way too fast and away from the camera. If I hadn't read the books, I would of had a very hard time keeping up. The scene with Mad-eye turning Malfoy into a ferret was pretty good~it could've of been done even better in my opinion though.

They made the pensieve sort of corny; when Harry walks into Dumbledore's office, the doors magically open to show the pensieve. The actual penisieve itself though and the memories within it was done pretty well. They never even explained what Dumbledore, Moody, and Cornelius Fudge were doing while Harry was poking around Dumbledore's office. What was up with Barty Crouch Jr. always doing this weird lip-licking thing? Did he have a coldsore or something? For that matter, they pretty much blew all other explanations needed too. Like when they were discovering the true idenitity of Mad-eye Moody (which also bugged me by the way because there was no Cornelius Fudge or dementors), why Neville was upset so much by the unforgivable curse lesson, etc . Other than that though, the visual and digital effects were very well done~much better than the other films. I thought Miranda Richardson was great at being Rita Skitter, quick quotes and all. Ralph Fiennes made a surprisingly good Voldemort. If I didn't know it was him, with all that lovely prothestics or whatever on, you never could've telled. The Sirius's head being in the fire of the Gryffindor common room was fairly accurate. The Yule ball was pretty accurate, using several lines from the books like the one where Ron and Harry are trying to figure out who to take to the ball and then Ron says "Hermione, you're a girl..." and so on.

They got the graveyard scene pretty much word for word from the book and was very accurate~thank god they got something right. Voldemort looked as revolting as he should, the death mark, death eaters, and everything looked pretty much as I would of envisioned. I think they cut a lil' bit of ol' Voldy's speech from how long it was in the book, but they still did very good on that part. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Fred and George Weasley scene whe they attempted to tryout for the triwizard tournament. That was very accurate and I think would of made J.K. Rowling proud . I do think though that Mike Newell's work is better than the other directors and for that, the film is the best one outta all of em.'

I thought it [egg] sounded a bit like Percy singing... maybe you've got to attack him while he's in the shower, Harry.
