Christine W's Review
I was so eager to watch the fifith movie. OOTP is my favourite book of all the 7 HP books. If you hadn't read the book ,the movie was OK the broblem is I don't really know many people who haven't. Did the director even read the book or did some other member of the filming crew just told him a low quality summary?
Correct me if I'm mistaken but this must have been the shortest movie of them all ironocally filmed for one of the richest books of the series. Where was Mundugnus? Did Tonks had any lines exept 'Don't call me Numphadora?'' Where was the portait of Sirious mother? Of course you agree that these are the small things.Let's talk about two objects that ought to be present and stressed. The mysterious locket which as we all know turns out to be soo important in the end and the two way mirror? How are they going to introduce it in film 7 if it's left out now? There had to be more Quidditch I believe though it didn't bother me.It's supposed to be a movie about a Teenaged boy -wizard. Personally I would like to see more dialogues focusing on teen problems-flirting,anger,exam stress-as it is in the book. ie. Harry troubled about his father's behaviour on Snape. He acts like he didn't understand what he saw-he is very uneasy in the book about that and Harry suffering a bit more about Serious-ie crying and breaking things in the Headmaster's office-
How could the production let the movie go out without Harry's interview to the Quibber?Oh I forgot...if you haven't read the book you don't get to know what this is do you? Not even the slightest reference to the magazine. Luna had only Nargls to talk about. There should be more development to her character to 'excuse' the name Loony.
The depertment of mysteries was my greatest dissapointment. Where was all the action I was so anxious to see?Harry and his lot listening to the prophecy????? Wasn't that supposed to be a secret???Wasn't Serious supposed to speak and fight with Belatrix before he FELL behind the veil and NOT killed by the killing curse?
Graup's graphics terrible. Seeing what the director had done with him I'm glad he didn't direct GoF. Imagine what he would have done with Voldemort.
Only a few things I enjoyed. Snape's interrogation,(I'd preffer Minerva's though),ocllumency lessons , Voldemort. I really enjoyed his magic and the graphics and Dolores was just like I had imagined. See what happens when you stick to the imagery of the book?Wonders.
If he is going to direct HBP I'm not going to see it. I prefer to have the Weasley shop, Voldemort's past and Dumbledor's death inact in my imagination.Except of course if the director reads the book and show a little enthousiasm instead of a very hurried,bored-let's get over with it-attitude he showed for a movie which based on the excellent cast and no doubt adequate budget should have been perfect.
