MuggleCast #65 Roundup!
Posted on 01 Dec 2006 by Andrew
We start off this week with a rebuttal from a listener who has a theory on Snape's boggart from Carolyn:

Maybe his boggart would be a Lord Voldemort who could read his mind, or the ghosts of those people he might have killed or helped kill as a Death Eater (eg. the Potters). I heard someone briefly mention his father as a possibility; that's totally possible, even if it's just manifested as a fear of his own muggle-ness, or people discovering he's a half-blood.

Molly, 14, from Fort Wayne, Indiana had this to say about our thoughts on the change of what Harry has written on his hand:

Harry's hand probably says "I must not break rules" instead of "I must not tell lies" because the classroom scene with Umbridge probably didn't make the movie. There was only one classroom scene in GOF, but that only got put in because the information was crucial to the plot. Harry may just have broken a rule in the hallway, landing him in dentention with Umbridge. Changing the medium of punishment wouldn't have worked, so WB just changed what Harry had engraved on his hand.

Skipping over to our discussion on some of the latest OOTP film developments, we have an e-mail from Hannah, 12, of New Zealand who has some thoughts about the O.W.L. scenes being left in as opposed to Dobby:

In your discussion, you mentioned that they kept OWLs but not Dobby. If you remember, during the Occumency lessons, Harry visits Snape's memory. Now, in that memory, the students are currently taking their OWLs. That could be a reason why WB decided to keep the OWLs but not Dobby.

Keep the great rebuttals coming! Episode 66 is our all-voicemail show and it was recorded earlier this week. We cover quite a few voicemails, reveal something in the OOTP teaser trailer that hasn't been discussed online yet, and I provide an update on my Wizard Rock band.

See you Sunday!

PS...The transcript for Episode 64 will be posted Saturday and Episode 65 will be posted on Sunday.

MuggleCast at Enlightening 2007!
Posted on 29 Nov 2006 by Andrew
We're happy to announce that we'll be at this summer's Enlightening 2007 event to be held in Philadelphia! Myself, along with Jamie and Ben, will be leading a podcasting workshop at E7 and hosting a live podcast on the night of OOTP's release. For more information, including how to sign up, visit Enlightening's website.

No word yet on the other co-hosts because of all the other events next summer, but we'll let you know as soon as they know.

Listeners are also wondering if this means we won't be at other Potter conventions or premieres scheduled to be held in July and August. This is not true (hopefully). We are in the process of booking other live shows, but at this time we only have one confirmed.

MuggleCast #64 Roundup and Episode 63 Transcript!

Feedback was very positive from last week's discussion and people seemed generally pleased at the nature vs. nurture debate over He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. A lot of people had lengthy rebuttals which will be discussed on the next show.

Another popular theory that has been floating around our inbox has been that JK Rowling fooled us back in New York City when she did the reading at Radio City Music Hall.

Many, including Jake, 37, of River Falls, Wisconsin thinks that when she said "Dumbledore is definitely dead" she was in fact referring to Aberforth who somehow switched places with his brother. Notice how she never specifies which Dumbledore.

Guys, she wouldn't lie to us. She was very explicit in her statement and even went on to say: "All of you need to move through the five stages of grief and I'm just helping you get past denial." She wouldn't suggest that we would be grieving over somebody like Aberforth, whom we have barely ever met.

That's all for this week. Get pumped for the EA Order of the Phoenix video game interview, which will be on Episode 65.

Happy Thanksgiving!

PS...The transcript for Episode 63 has been posted.

MuggleCast #63 Roundup!

For once, this is actually on time and not posted 24 hours prior to recording another show... go us!

Diving right into things, our discussion on the Forbidden Forest sparked many thoughts, mainly surrounding the possibility of a Horcrux being hidden there. Roxanne of the MuggleCast Fan Forums had this to say considering the subject:

I've read some editorials about the possible hidden places of the Horcruxes made from objects owned by the founders according to the symbols of their houses. Hufflepuff has a relation to the earth, plants, and nature so according to this, a forest would fit as a hiding place for the Hufflepuff cup.

Mariami also reminded us that there would need to be a special reason for Voldemort to keep a Horcrux in the Forbidden Forest: The forest would make a good hiding place for Horcruxes, but what great importance does it have to Voldemort? Remember he won't hide his precious souls anywhere.

A few of you also wrote in concerning some of the soccer (football) comments made on the show last week - as with everything, none of the hosts mean any offense when expressing their opinions. My little brother is a soccer player (a respectable one, at that) so I personally like the sport! The opinions on the show are strictly the views of the person expressing them, and not necessarily the views of the other hosts.

Some of you were also disappointed that we didn't touch more on the subject of werewolves and why there are allegedly some in the Forbidden Forest. There have been theories ranging from it just being a rumor to werewolves just wanting somewhere they can live in peace without facing the everyday bigotry the wizarding world has for them. This is a perfect opportunity for everyone curious about this subject to send in a voicemail for a future show!

As always, it is your feedback that makes the show (and these roundups) possible, so please, if you have a thought, theory, complaint... or anything, for that matter, don't hesitate to e-mail us with your thoughts!

Love,

Laura and the MuggleBoys

Happy Pickle Appreciation Day!
Posted on 14 Nov 2006 by Andrew
Today, pickle lovers around the world are celebrating Pickle Appreciation Day. We MuggleCast listeners are also proud to join in on this special occasion. The only way we know how, unfortunately, is to send each other Pickle Appreciation Day E-cards.

Maybe we'll have more time to plan for PAD 2007. In the mean time, crack open a pickle and congratulate it for being placed on fast food across the world!
