New Clues to Harry Potter: Book Five

...There appear to be at least three (and that's conservative) major sub-plots going on in Book 5 that have yet to be revealed!...

In the coming weeks, Galadriel Waters' newest book concerning the mysteries of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be released. (Haven't read Galdriel's first book? ...Not yet an HP Sleuth? Click here!). The second book, unlike the first, will serve only as a "hint" book to guide sleuths in the right direction to deciphering the mysteries -- although we're positive many of the sleuths will converge upon forums world-wide to put their ideas together. Perhaps if they're lucky, Galadriel may confirm their theories! (Please note that the descriptions below may contain spoilers from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix). Forums for discussing the theories from the book online with others are available here

Hints from the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter
HP Sleuths are clever fans who know how to ferret out the clues J.K. Rowling has hidden in her septology -- fans who revel in the quest of divining what is yet to come from those concealed mysteries. HP Sleuths aren't quite ready to be told answers to the mysteries in J.K.R.'s 5th and newest installment of the Harry Potter series -- but they do want to know if they are on the right track! This new book provides the hints and clues readers need to stay on the right path (or maybe another path -- J.K.R.'s stories are complex!) to unravel these mysteries themselves.

New Clues to Harry Potter: Book 5 is a "hints only" guide and is in a different format from the preceding Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter. It includes a load of FAQs to explain some of the more complex events that occurred and also points HP Sleuths to the right sections so they'll know precisely where to look for all the mega clues we've spotted. It also has a lot of big hints and tools you'll need to start solving the mysteries, both for the book and for the entire septology! Never fear, you aren't alone -- the HP Hintoscope, WWP Sleuthoscope and Rememberit Quill will all help too, but they've been fixed with a anti-exposition spell to keep them from spoiling all of the answers for you in the new guide!

We can't leave you without a small taste of what's to come from the new guide, so here are a few nibbles from the newest installment:
  • What Did Aunt Petunia's Howler Mean By "Remember My Last"? (Chapter 5 : FAQ)

We know from Chapter 37 {"The Lost Prophecy"} in Book 5, that it was Dumbledore, himself, who sent the Howler. Why didn't Harry recognize his voice? Would Dumbledore have needed to disguise his voice?

Even though the part about Dumbledore's "last" message was a bit cryptic to us readers, Aunt Petunia seemed to know very well what it meant. What communication would that have been? It could have been the letter he left with the baby Harry on their doorstep, which explained their commitment on taking in Harry. But it may not have been. Just to be sure, HP Sleuths may want to investigate exactly when it was that Aunt Petunia and Dumbledore would have "last" communicated. (Hint -- there does appear to be some contact with the Dursleys - for instance in Chapter 5 {"The Whomping Willow"} from Book 2.)

The Petunia Paradox (Chapter 5 : Hint)

What's with Petunia? You couldn't help but notice that she knew a bit more about wizardry than she's been letting on. She even used the (gasp!) "W" word. However, it's not just what she said that got our attention -- it's what she didn't say and how she reacted. There were several other huge clues buried in that scene, the least of which was her highly suspicious, "jerky" explanation about the wizard prison. Consider who was more confused about everything that was going on -- Petunia or Harry?

  • Sing a song of galleons,
What has Fudge got up his sleeve?
If you think the Quibbler's crazy
    Well, that
is what you're supposed to believe...

  • Why Did Snape Put His Memories Into The Pensieve? (Chapter 28 : FAQ)

When we read about the Pensieve in Book 4, it was unclear whether the "thought" that was placed into the Pensieve was a copy or was actually removed from one's mind. We can now conclude that the memory is physically removed. Another issue, which has yet to be resolved, is how the "memory" is viewed in third-person (you can watch the person whose memory it is). That makes some difference when trying to understand what is "real" vs. what is only stored in memory.

Severus' Memory (Chapter 28 : Clue)

The WWP Sleuthoscope is fuming in indignation, but it will just have to let HP Sleuths work this one out for themselves. How many times did J.K.R. point out it was Severus' memory? What would that mean? How many times did she say that Snape was busy reading. What would that mean? How did everyone address each other? (hem-hem!) Also, what did James write on his paper and what would that have meant? (The meaning's easy -- what you should be asking is how Snape knew?) HP Sleuths may want to review some of Book 3 while looking at this memory since it raises as many questions as its answers.

hint: She (J.K.R.) wanted us to understand that something is from Snape's perspective. It's also worth noting how James, Remus, Sirius and Peter call each other by their Animagi names (Prongs, Moony, Padfoot and Wormtail).
    • from Chapter 28: "Harry looked anxiously behind him again. Snape remained close by, still buried in his exam questions -- but this was Snape's memory and Harry was sure that if Snape chose to wander off in a different direction once outside in the grounds, he, Harry, would not be able to follow James any further..."

  • What is the Meaning of Grawp’s Name? Hagrid relates how Grawp was (gulp) small for a giant. He had been teased and unloved by everyone –- including his own mum. He has a very hard time with words, although as Hermy found out, he does try as best he can. The Harry Potter books address intolerance on all levels and show how much bickering goes on -– even within groups who are suffering at the hands of others. The giants are exiled, without a true home. However, rather than unite and fight together, or unite and work out a contingency plan together, the giants just keep fighting among themselves -– killing each other off.

Grawp is a child of this animosity. His name is highly appropriate in a story about intolerance, and is very sad. When Hagrid asked Grawp his name, it was difficult to understand what the little tyke said -– but we were able to. Fans of classic
Trek may have already guessed it, or you can use your Philological Stone if you need help. If you think about the way he was always teased about how small he is, the only words the others ever used to him were: “Grow up!”
Appearances are misleading... and so is what you read. To find out what is really going to happen in the Harry Potter mysteries you need to dig deeper. Hidden clues, secret subplots...there's a lot more happening in Book 5 than a mad Harry and a prophecy orb...

The Ultimate Unofficial Guideby Galadriel Waters
to the Mysteries of Harry Potter
Calling all potential HP Sleuths... here is the original Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter. This is the one that got almost everything right about what would happen in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Over 400 pages of theories and predictions –- including many more theories about what will happen in Books 6 and 7. Find out about those! The best part is that the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter shows the reader how to learn to predict correctly too! J.K. Rowling told us what she did: “My ambition is to write books that the reader won’t necessarily get completely on the first reading...” (from an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald). “I like a mystery, as you may have noticed.” (from a chat on Scholastic.com). “If you read [Harry Potter] carefully, you’ll get hints about what’s coming.” (from a chat on Scholastic.com).

Harry Potter fans want to know (and love speculating about) what is going to happen to Harry and all his friends! This guide reveals the hidden secrets of the Harry Potter stories! It uses only legitimate sources (J.K. Rowling's published works and interviews) to expose plot puzzles and clues that J.K.R. has concealed within her stories. Readers are excited to discover all the hints they missed when they read the books the first time(s). They are taught to become an expert HP Sleuth, so they can have a lot more fun doing their Harry Potter detective work while they wait for Book 6...

Another common question answered for readers: "How exactly do those things work in the magical world and why did it have to happen that way?" -- Many readers have trouble understanding the complex workings of J.K. Rowling's magical world. The Mirror of Erised is one example of a not-very-straight-forward concept. It is a paradoxical device in the first place, and then she (J.K.R.) complicates it by imbedding clues in there. So how exactly did that mirror thing work? This Guide gives easy-to-understand explanations for all those weird magical items, and helps readers through the very rough 700 pages of Goblet of Fire.

And just where did the funny names come from that J.K. Rowling uses for her characters and magical places? This guide exposes how those funny names aren’t just for kids! The names are etymology tricks derived from French, Latin, German, Olde English, and other sources –- such as Greek mythology. Most importantly, readers are shown how they are actually holding clues to the Harry Potter mysteries, and even foretell the fate of many of the characters!

Not to be sold without a small taste of its hints and revelations, The Ultimate Unofficial Guide made some predictions about some characters in book five and later books in the series... and quite a few are turning out to be the truth:
  • Fred & George Weasley: Don't be fooled by these goof-offs. They are exceptionally talented wizards. Fred and George probably did some time-traveling to hedge their bet with Bagman at the World Cup. Their next project is bound to be significant. Those two may be jesters, but they are also very enterprising. We can only imagine the havoc they could (will) create if they use their talents on devious devices to thwart their enemies (Voldemort has no idea what he's in for...)!

  • Ginny Weasley: We think she will have an important role in Book 5 (no longer a weak character). Ginny is a friend to Colin and Neville.

  • Neville Longbottom: A tobacco plant called Longbottom Leaf was the hidden link that exposed Sauruman's plot to take over the Shire. Neville is assuredly a missing link in J.K.R.'s mystery. He, therefore... would want you to purchase this fine guide to read the rest on his character!
Not only that, it posed some thoughtful questions for the reader:
  • What is going to happen in the war?
  • Who may turn traitor in the final books?
  • What secrets does Professor Snape hold?
  • Do you know how to solve Snape's poison bottle puzzle in the room "through the trapdoor"? Did you know there are actually 2 solutions to that puzzle?
Discover scary information about Book 6 and beyond! Learn valuable HP Sleuth skills for the rest of the series! Tons of great Harry Potter info! Secrets & clues revealed! Find out all the incredible hints you missed when you read the Harry Potter books! See how the Harry Potter books are even more complex than the Lord of the Rings series! You won't believe what's in this book! The Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter addresses a broad audience in a humorous, fun-to-read, conversational format that brings new excitement to the series. It is a must have for any Harry Potter fans!
