Trivia Question
What time does the Hogwarts Express leave King's Cross Station?

Last issue's trivia: How is Arthur Weasley related to Sirius Black? Second cousin once removed.

Spotlight Theory
Since what is most obvious is rarely truth in Harry Potter, could Hogwarts' next headmaster be not Minerva McGonagall, but Horace Slughorn? Not only does Slughorn have the seniority, but he also holds a much higher degree of neutrality toward Voldemort, thus making him less of a target for Death Eaters.

JK Rowling says:
JKR's second new year's writing resolution...
"Some people do not seem to grasp that I still have to sit down in peace and write the books, apparently believing that they pop up like mushrooms without my connivance. I must therefore guard the time allotted to writing as a Hungarian Horntail guards its firstborn egg."

A Look Back at 2005 and Hopes for 2006
Written by K'lyssa Selmon
Happy New Year! As our first newsletter article of 2006 (already?!), I thought it would be nice to take a look back at 2005 - it was a huge one for Harry Potter fans - and look into what 2006 has in store for us.

In January of 2005, we found out how long Half-Blood Prince would be and also welcomed JK Rowling's daughter into the world. In March the US and UK covers for HBP was released and new artwork was revealed. April brought us the release dates of the audio books, and in May Emerson and Melissa (of TLC) announced their trip to interview JK Rowling on July 16th. Records for pre-ordering were broken in June, Spellbound!2005 was announced, and two copies of HBP were stolen - but were quickly returned.

July welcomed the highly anticipated 6th book in the series, Half-Blood Prince, which sold a record 6.9 million copies on the first day, and Emerson and Melissa interviewed Mrs. Rowling herself - and let's not forget the uproar that one small word (delusional ringing a bell?) caused for Mr. MuggleNet. The rating for Goblet of Fire was announced in August, and MuggleCast was born! November brought the world premiere of Goblet of Fire in London, and the domestic premiere in New York City. The live podcast went off without a hitch, and the movie broke records on opening day. For a more detailed review of the whirlwind year of 2005, click here!

Although we won't be seeing a new Potter movie or book in 2006, it still looks to be an exciting year. Filming for Order of the Phoenix is scheduled to begin in a few months, and as JK Rowling writes the seventh (and final!) book in our beloved series, exciting announcements are sure to be made.

And we can't forget Lumos 2006! Held for three days in Las Vegas, this Harry Potter convention is sure to be a blast. PotterCast and MuggleCast will once again join forces for a live podcast and a large majority of the staffers here (including me!) will be in attendance. With activities constantly going on both day and night, you won't leave disappointed. I, as I'm sure the rest of the staffers do as well, look forward to meeting all of you who plan to be there!

Here's to a happy, healthy, Potter-filled 2006!
