Just two months after the release of the eagerly anticipated Harry Potter
and the Half-Blood Prince, the Harry Potter world is abuzz again as the
countdown for the fourth movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is well
underway. Just a few days ago the second theatrical trailer for the film was
released - and it made the wait until November 18 seem, if possible, that
much longer.
I'm not ashamed to admit it - I got teary eyed while watching the trailer
for the first time. Some people might think that's pathetic, but many more
had the same thing happen to them. I'm not really sure what it was about the
trailer that touched me so much. The music is amazing, very..epic. Yes, I do
miss John Williams, but from what we've heard so far, I think Patrick Doyle
has done a fantastic job. Perhaps the fact that we'll have no Harry Potter book or movie
until 2007 is what got me. Or maybe it was the thought that 2 months ago..we
were all diving into HBP for the first time, and we've only got one Harry
Potter book left.
I think most of the scenes we were shown were at least semi-canon. The
complaints about this movie, at least to me, seem few and far between. The
opening scenes of the trailer give us a glimpse into the arrival of the
students from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons. Dumbledore provides a voice-over,
introducing them and elaborating on the Tournament as a whole. We see Harry
asking Cho to the Yule Ball, Ron taking dancing lessons with Professor
McGonagall ("Where?!") and then we see the Yule Ball itself - which, I might
add, looks absolutely fantastic. The mood changes and we're shown clips from
each of the three Tri-Wizard tasks, and then the we see the champion
selection - leading to a fight between Ron and Harry. Mad Eye Moody's class
definitely seems a bit eery, quite like the book..and those spiders? Yuck!
In quick succession, we see Sirius in the common room fire, the Dark Mark,
the graveyard scene (totally creepy), Priori Incantatem and much more.
This movie, from what I can tell, is shaping up to be - not only the best
Harry Potter movie - but also the best movie of the fall season. I
anticipate great reviews and success at the box office and perhaps, finally,
the awards and recognition the series truly deserves.
