Potter Profile - Conor

March 8, 2009
First off, how did you become a Harry Potter fan?
When I was about eight or nine I first borrowed Philosopher's (Sorcerer's) Stone
from my neighbour, after my sister recommended it to me. I was hooked IMMEDIATELY.
I was never much of a big reader before the Harry Potter books, but as soon as I
finished Philosopher's Stone, I raced out to the local library and borrowed Chamber
of Secrets.
How are you feeling now that the series is over?
Pretty empty actually...Its like, when there was more books to come, there was
always adventures to be had and secrets to uncover, but now all there is left are
the movies, and even they aren't going to be anything new. I don't know how I'll
cope when the last movie comes out...
If you could rewrite any part of the series, what would you change?
I would definitely save Tonks and Lupin from death, I was so sad when that happened.
Plus, I would have liked to read more about the battle of Hogwarts but I know that
would have been almost impossible for Jo to write (because the reader stays with
Harry for almost all of the series, with the exceptions of "The Riddle House"
chapter in book four and "The Other Minister" chapter in Half-Blood Prince).
In your opinion, who is the most over-rated character?
Neville Longbottom. There was all the mystery about him being the other child the
prophecy alludes to, but in the end he only has a small part in defeating Voldemort.
Sure it must have taken guts to stand up to the Carrows and lead the D.A. in Harry's
absence, but there was to much hype surrounding him compared to what he actually did
in the end.
Who is the most under-rated?
Luna Lovegood. She is an amazing, hilarious strong character who should have been
so much more prominent in Deathly Hallows. She's fantastic
Keeping in mind the encyclopedia that Jo plans to write, besides a
main character, whose back story are you most interested in reading about and
why?
Mr and Mrs Longbottom. It would be so interesting to read about how they met, their
involvement in the Order and how they fought Voldemort. You never get to hear too
much about their pre-insanity life in the book, and I think a part about them in the
encyclopaedia would be really enthralling.
If you could make the decision on where Deathly Hallows would be split for movies 1
& 2, where would you split it and why?
Just as Harry and Hermione have escaped Godric's Hollow, and Voldemort runs to the
window and screams out in rage...with part two opening on the next scene where we
finally get to see what really happened the night James and Lily died. As soon as I
read this part in the book, I knew it would be the best place to split it (even
before I knew it was going to be split)
Please describe something in your life (besides your life as a
whole) that has been directly affected by Harry Potter, Jo, or both.
The biggest effect Harry Potter has had on my life is that it has educed a love of
reading. I never used to read before I picked up Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone,
but now I'm hooked.
Anything else you would like to add?
I would just like to sincerely thank J.K. Rowling for being a fantastic human being.
Not only has she created a series of books that have effected my live so wonderfully
but also for all she has done to better the lives of others with her charity and
humanitarian work.
