Potter Profile - Georgie

December 21, 2006

Fan Question of the Week: What actor/actress in the films do you think best portrays their character? (Submitted by Julia, 13, from the United States)
They all do really good jobs, but probably Tom Felton, Matt Lewis and Bonnie Wright. Most people I think would say one of the more major characters with more screen time, and obviously the actors for those parts also do a fantastic job, but the fact that the supporting roles are done so well just adds to the credibility of the film. I'm not one of those people who love Malfoy because of Tom Felton, but from the first time that we see him, he's just personified Malfoy, straight off the page to the screen. Same with Neville. And just in CoS, just from that look that Ginny gives Harry when she sees him their just captures the whole awkward crush. It's so cute, especially after you know they are going to end up together. Oh and Maggie Smith for the same reasons.

How did you become a fan of Harry Potter?
I was 9 and in Grade Four, and our school librarian told us about this book series that was big in England that was starting to get big in Australia too. She said it was about this boy who lives in cupboard who finds out he is a wizard. She then said about how he wore broken glasses and had no friends. Then half my class started laughing and calling him a nerd. That was when I began to like Harry Potter, before I had even read it "He's a bit of a nerd like me!" I took Philosophers Stone home that weekend, and read it twice in one day, and I was hooked. I read the next two within the next week, and I was up to around 30 odd re-reads of each before Goblet came out and I stopped counting.

Which of the four Hogwarts houses would you like to belong to?
I'd like to think Gryffindor. Everyone would like to think that they are brave and courageous like Harry, or funny like the twins or whatever it is that they aspire for their own personality and find in a Gryffindor character. Unless the person is being rebellious and says they are a Slytherin. I'd love to be a Gryffindor, but honestly I think I would be a Ravenclaw.

If you had the chance to act as one of the characters in the movie version of the books, who would you pick?
Even though I look nothing like her, probably Lily in the Snape's Worst Memory scene. I don't think that I would really like all the attention that someone like Emma Watson gets. Ooh, maybe Cho (who I also look nothing like)? She's such a good character. And also that means most of the shooting would be with Cedric, Harry or the DA scences. That would be fun.

What are your thoughts about the upcoming fifth movie?
Mixed. In many ways I despise the movies for leaving out so much of the books, but as an aspiring screen writer it's also very understandable that they do have to leave a heap out. I am looking forward to it greatly, but I know after I have seen it I will be slightly let down. I hype myself up for it too much.

When do you think Book 7 should be released?
2008. So then I will be 18 and can go to England for the midnight releases! That would be great, just being in a room with people whose lives have been so deeply affected by the same thing that mine has.

Who is one character you think will die in Book 7?
Voldemort. But that's obvious, we all know that he has to. I don't think Ron and Hermione will die, but I've always thought that Harry will. My opinion of that is changing though, probably just due to the copious amounts of post war Harry/Ginny that I read so much that I practically inhale it.

If you had the opportunity to meet JK Rowling, what is one question you would ask her?
I think I would just squeal for a while. Then I would tell her that I think that she's very sneaky, and ask her if she put the Mark Evans thing in to get us all suspicious before telling us that it was just a mistake because of the common surname. She did the exact same thing in HBP with Zacharias/Hepzibar Smith. I would tell her that I think she put in the whole Mark Evans thing just to make us think that all common surnames may be used more that once, taking our focus away from the possible relation of Zach to Hepzy.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Um, thanks so much to Mandie for choosing me! And just that I love Harry Potter so much, the characters feel like long lost sibling to me, I've grown up with them. Knowing that there are people who feel like me, and live on MuggleNet or fanfiction sites like me makes me feel better about my obsession!

Remember Cedric. Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.
