Potter Profile - Grace

July 4, 2004

How and when did you get in to Harry Potter?
I first really got into Harry Potter when I saw the first movie in theaters. I had the book, and I had tried once to read it, but it was so difficult and confusing I didn't even get to the third page. Sad, huh? But the main reason was because I was in, like, second grade, and I didn't understand it at all. After I saw the movie, I went home and told everyone how cool this movie had been. When my Christmas break came after I saw the movie, I started reading the book every morning and every night. I finished it in about a week, which had been a record for me. I loved it, and was excited to read the others. A few days before school started, I went to the library and got the Chamber of Secrets. I finished it in about two weeks, mostly because of school. When I finsihed that, my friend Isaiah, who now loves HP as much as I do, let me borrow the Prisoner of Azkaban. That was a Thursday, and I could not possibly put it down. I went to school on Friday, halfway through it, and read it everywhere. On the bus, at recess, during math class, during lunch. My teacher threatened to take it away from me during math, which made me laugh, because nothing could come between me and my Harry Potter. I finished it that night, then got the Goblet of Fire, and read that in about two weeks. I then waited forever for the fifth to come out. I had on a piece of paper how many days away the release was. I didn't get the Order of the Phoenix until the day after, because my aunt had her wedding on June 21st, and it took over the whole day. The day after, I made my dad take me to get it before I left with my cousins to Muscatine, Iowa. I finished it in six days, half because of boredom, half of wanting to know more about the relationship of Cho and Harry.

Which Harry Potter book is your favorite?
My favorite Harry Potter book is the Prisoner of Azkaban. My favorite characters, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, come into that book, and so do a few other new characters. It also has a lot of mystery, and Harry finally finds the meaning behind hatred.

What character can you relate to most?
I can relate to a lot of characters, but I mostly relate to Hermione, because I try really hard at school and read a LOT. I try to prove myself also, but not as much as Hermione. But I can also relate to Harry. But then again, who doesn't? But I relate to Harry because often I find myself thinking "I wish I could be in the crowd just watching this, instead of doing it," in front of a crowd, as Harry did before the Triwizard Tournament. I also can relate to his anger and feeling of loss, but again, who doesn't?

Are you satisfied with the handling of the "boy/girl stuff" in book 5?
I think the pairing of Harry and Cho was wrong beyond wrong. Cho was a spoiled rotten brat who didn't get what she wanted. I'm glad that Harry had let her go by the end, because he deserves better.

What did you think was the most exciting thing that happened in book 5? What was the most disturbing? What left the biggest impression on you?
I think the most exciting thing that happened in book five was the part where Harry and his team fight the Death Eaters, and when Dumbledore beats You-Know-Who's butt! The most disturbing part in the fifth book would have to be either the detentions with Umbridge, or the Oclumency lessons with Snape. Both were torturing, and both were sick, though the detentions were more sick then the Oclumeny lessons. The thing that left the biggest impression on me was the death of Sirius, since that broke me into pieces. I remember reading that and bawling my bloody eyes out, and my cousin came in the room, and was like "Are you okay?" and I looked at her, eyes puffy and red, and said "Does it look like I'm okay???" She asked me what was wrong, I told her, and she rolled her eyes, sighed, and left the room. But Sirius dying came as a big surprise to me. I was thinking it would be Dudley, or Hagrid! But now as I think of it, JK Rowling wouldn't cry as she killed Dudley. She'd probably be laughing. Well, I would be.

Which house would you like to be in and why? Do you think the Sorting Hat would place you in that house?
If I could be in a house, I'd probably want to be in either Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. Ravenclaw, because, not to brag or anything, I'm pretty smart. I always do my work, and get really good grades. Gryffindor, because I'm brave, and I always stick up for my friends, and would do anything for them. I think the Sorting Hat would put me in one of them. But I'd have to say "Not Slytherin, not Slytherin" just as Harry did, because I can be selfish and spoiled sometimes.

Do you have any interesting HP stories to share?
Every year, my friend holds a Harry Potter party, with butterbeer, pumpkin juice, and licorice wands! We tell the guests to dress up like their favorite character, but none of them do, so we end up looking goofy dressed like Parvati Patil and Lavender Brown! We always say "Oh, this is gonna be an awesome party!" and it ends up biting the dust. So we're holding another one this year, and we'll try even harder to make it a really cool party!

Do you have anything else you'd like to add? Maybe a theory you've concocted, a shout-out?
I have two theories:

1) That Harry is a metamorphamagus, just like Tonks. I think this because in one of the first chapters of the Sorcerer's Stone, it says that Harry's aunt cut off all his hair, except for his bangs. He was so worried about going to school, because everyone would make fun of him. The next day, he woke up, and all his hair had grown back. And JKR never just brings something into the story, does she?

2) That Trelawney is (or was) a Death Eater. I don't have much support for this one, though. Only that she calls You-Know-Who "Dark Lord", just as the Death Eaters do.

I'd like to give a shout-out to a few people. To Tasha, Happy belated birthday! To Robbie, fweeeeeeeee! To Jordan, John, and Rhiannon, hi! To the Double Trouble bumpers, hi hi! To my favoritest Forgotten Fort bumpers (Mel & Kaylee) thanks! To all the people in my sixth grade class, hey! To my sixth grade teacher, thanks for being an awesome teacher! To my piano teacher, thanks for teaching me so much! To the Braumeisters, cheers! To mom, dad, Karina, Kelly, Chrissy, Andrea, Grandma & Grandpa, Hilary & Ezra, and my other family, thanks for being there for me! To all the Harry Potter fans, YOU ROCK!!!!!!
