Potter Profile - Noelle

May 22, 2005

What is your favorite Harry Potter book and why?
I would have to say that my favorite Harry Potter book, so far, is the Goblet of Fire. I love the drama of the ending, but also the adventure that leads up to all of it. There are so many different things going on and I never get bored of reading it again and again!

Did you like the third movie or not and why?
I did like the third movie. It is different from the book in a lot of ways; however, I think that it is fun to see other things on screen as well. For example, the shrunken head was a funny surprise (a little annoying, but funny), as was the scene where Ron has his nightmare about spiders and Harry says, "You tell those spiders!" I think it was the extra parts that made the movie fun because it is always interesting watching different scenarios instead of having the book verbatim onto the screen. At first I was a little disappointed about how little they included the story of the Marauder's map. When I went to see it, I asked my boyfriend, "Didn't you wonder how Lupin knew how to use the map?" He said no. So, I realized that it probably wasn't necessary for the understanding of it on screen. However, as a fan, you know that if you know all the inner secrets of the series and you don't need to see it on screen.

If you could spend the day as one character from the books, who would it be?
As annoying as she can be sometimes, I would have to say Hermione. I love her drive and ambition. Sometimes having to study for things is such a drag, but she makes it seem so easy. I would love to know the answer to everything and be a know-it-all. Although, I would have to say, I would probably tone it down a bit. She would be hanging out with Harry and Ron all the time, and that would be fun too. Even though Harry is my favorite character, I would never want to be him for a day!

What do you think of all this "relationship" arguments about who will end up with who, etc.?
I am one of those people who believe that all the clues lead to Ron and Hermione. I wish that Harry would find someone too, but I really don't think it's going to be Hermione. He said in the Goblet of Fire, that he missed Ron because having Hermione as a best friend just wasn't as fun. Harry has a lot of problems and concerns and I don't really see him having time to deal with relationship issues. Poor Harry!

What is your favorite moment of the series so far?
I have a lot of favorite moments, but I have to say that there are several scenes that just stand out for me. My favorite is the part in Goblet of Fire where Harry leaves the Prefect bathroom, smelling strongly of perfume from the bath, with the egg and gets stuck in the stairs and drops everything. When I first read it, I thought it was the funniest thing when Moody comes into the situation and Harry realizes the "full strangeness of the scene." I love the tense moments where Harry sneaks around doing things he's not supposed to.

Who do you think the Half-Blood prince is?
That is a tough question. Originally I was thinking it had to be someone who was a half-blood, but then I read some theories about it maybe being someone who is the leader of the Half-Bloods, so that certainly changed things. If I went with my first thought, I was thinking it was either Hagrid or maybe Seamus. They are both Half-Bloods. But, I really cannot conjure a very good guess at this point. I am going to laugh when it turns out to be someone we've never even met before, after months and months of debate of who is the Half-Blood prince!

Do you have anything else you'd like to add? Maybe a theory you've concocted, a shout-out?
I have a lot of theories about what might happen, but I like to be surprised! And of course, I can't wait for Book 6 to come out! Also, I would like to say Hello to my friend Annie, who not only watches all the Harry Potter movies with me, but also shares the fun of talking about (and reading the books) over and over again! I also must say hello to my friends Elaine and Denise who are Harry Potter fanatics also! And to my other friend Annie who needs to read Book 4 and 5 already! Quick Annie before the 6th one comes out and you're really lost! All of us send emails to each other all day about our analytical perspectives of the stories when we are all supposed to be working! I couldn't make it through the workday without you girls! And of course I have to say hello to my boyfriend, Todd, and thank him for putting up with all my Harry Potter stuff!

Quidditch started in the 11th century at a place called Queerditch Marsh, which is not marked on muggle maps because wizards have made the place unplottable. Originally it was quite a crude game played on broomsticks with just the quaffle.
