Potter Profile - Geoff

June 29, 2003

Harry Potter is one of the greatest stories ever, it's ability to cross just about any age rivals even exceeds Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. Nothing like it even comes close. The stories are also written with just the right amount of suspense and excitement, and are NEVER predictable. I read book 5 in just about 7 hours, because I couldn't stop turning the pages. Rowling has a spectacular gift.

How and when did you get in to Harry Potter?
I got into it when I met my friend Jeny, who Loves Harry Potter and had a big poster of Harry playing Quidditch in her dorm room. So over Christmas of 2002, I cracked and bought the first 3 books. I finished them in about 2 days, and I've been hooked ever since.

Which Harry Potter book is your favorite?
Order of the Phoenix is definitely the best, because it brings together so much from the others, and some of the plot twists are genius.

What character can you relate to most?
Professor Lupin, not because I'm a werewolf, but because I think people are going to make me start to go prematurely grey like he is.

Are you satisfied with the handling of the "boy/girl stuff" in book 5?
Mostly, but I think Cho was WAY too manic-depressive.

What did you think was the most exciting thing that happened in book 5? What was the most disturbing? What left the biggest impression on you?
The most exciting thing was definitely the battle at the end. The most impressive was how the Ministry and Fudge kept meddling with the school. I think that if I was a teacher at Hogwarts, I would have just Transfigured Umbridge into a carpet or something, and then put her on my floor so I could walk all over her at my leisure...the most disturbing was how the pureblood wizards have family trees that don't seem to branch, which might explain a few things.

Was the character that died the one you thought it would be? (Be honest now!)
No, I thought it was going to be Albus.

Out of all the spells used in the books, which one is your favorite, and why?
Not so much a spell, but whatever enchantment is used to make broomsticks fly, I WANT my own broomstick.

Do you have any interesting HP stories to share?
I'm the biggest HP trivia master that I know of. Everyone who has tried so far (including my dear friend Sheryl...HI SHERYL) has had a very difficult time trying to stump me with some trivia fact [editor's note: sounds to me like a CHALLENGE...].

Also, I was the first person I know who realized that Dumbledore was referring to the same Mrs. Figg from the first book when he had Sirius "round up the old crowd" at the end of the 4th book.

Do you have anything else you'd like to add? Maybe a theory you've concocted, a shout-out?
I was SOOOOO happy when it said Lucius Malfoy was in jail at the end of Book 5.
Hey to Sheryl, Kevin, and Jeny, and Jeff, my HP brethren!
