Potter Profile - Megan

February 22, 2004

I was always sad to see other people have their little fandoms. I could never connect with anything and I was jealous that they had something they could love and spend time enjoying. Then one day Harry Potter fell into my world and I'm glad to say that I'll never be lacking again.

How and when did you get in to Harry Potter?
I was introduced in pretty much the same way everyone I know was introduced. My little cousin came home from school with Chamber of Secrets and I snatched it away from him after reading the first few chapters out of boredom. Then I picked up PoA and was officially Ms. Rowling's willing slave.

Which Harry Potter book is your favorite?
Prisoner of Azkaban without a doubt. The first two books are kind of self contained. With the addition of PoA you just enter all kinds of depths. There are so many things going on in that book and so many clashes in personalities and hard feelings that just suck you in and make you care about the future of these characters. With the first two books it was all focused on Voldemort but here we get to see the evil of people and how weakness and cowardice can change everyones lives. It's such a fabulous book.

What character can you relate to most?
It's typical but I'm exactly like Neville. I'm fumbling and socially inept but I care alot about people and don't want them to get themselves hurt. I know what it's like to have parents that are different because both of mine are deaf and it was like a secret from the other kids because I didn't want to be made fun of and I didn't want my parents to be made fun of. So I really connect with Neville on a lot of different levels.

Are you satisfied with the handling of the "boy/girl stuff" in book 5?
Let's face it Cho was a pain extreme. She just complicated everything and I had enough frustration with Umbridge without having her in there every five seconds crying and making Harry feel bad. I was much more impressed with Ginny. She saw that nothing was really going to happen with Harry and got over it and did her own thing. I was also secretly happy watching Ron be all big-brother when she talked about her boyfriends.

What did you think was the most exciting thing that happened in book 5? What was the most disturbing? What left the biggest impression on you?
Umbridge and Snape were two big things for me in book five. Umbridge because I wanted to rip out my hair in frustration and Snape because we really got to see why he acts the way he does with Harry. It just shows that people are not perfect be it the mean teacher or the father you thought to be so perfect all along. I was just really impressed with the Occulemency lessons and the Pensieve incident. They were my favorite parts of the book.

Was the character that died the one you thought it would be? (Be honest now!)
Even though Sirius was an important character I thought someone even more central to the story was going to go. Like Hermione or Ron. I think we're all conditioned to think that the good things don't always last so I was waiting for someone really close to Harry on a daily basis to go. I am sad though that Sirius is the one who ended up dying.

Which house would you like to be in and why? Do you think the Sorting Hat would place you in that house?
I would like to be in Slytherin because I love everything about the house but I would never be placed by the Sorting Hat in Slytherin. I would most likely end up in Hufflepuff because I'm smart but not smart enough for Ravenclaw, and I can stand up for people but I'm not going to go running off into the night to fight the biggest evil, or rather, I'm not really brave. I can do hard work though and I'm very loyal, so Hufflepuff seems fitting.

Do you have any interesting HP stories to share?
It is not a good idea to stalk the movie rental woman when you want the CoS stand up on display. She doesn't really like it LOL.

Do you have anything else you'd like to add? Maybe a theory you've concocted, a shout-out?
I just want to say keep reading and loving all things Harry Potter and convincing those friends who laugh and say it's for kids. It's fun to watch them bite their tongue and start sleeping on Harry Potter bedsheets.

Also hit up a Dollar General if you live near one. They have some HP stuff for super super cheap.

Quotes
Messing up your hair because you think it looks cool to look like you've just got off your broomstick, showing off with that stupid Snitch, walking down corridors and hexing anyone who annoys you just because you can — I'm surprised your broomstick can get off the ground with that fat head on it. You make me SICK.
