Potter Profile - Rita

April 25, 2010
First off, how did you become a Harry Potter fan?
When I was in first grade, I thought that the Harry Potter series was a bunch of stupid books for boys. I wouldn't have touched them with a ten-foot broomstick (that's a Goblet of Fire quote, by the way). My mom wanted me to give it a chance, so she read me the first chapter of the Sorceror's Stone. Sure enough, I was hooked, and I devoured the rest of the book in the next few days. I'm sure that my mom regrets exposing me to Harry Potter, because I've been obsessed ever since!
It has been over two years since Deathly Hallows came out and we found out
how the series ended. Do you have the same reaction to the ending now, as
you did then?
The first time I read the book, I just tore through it, I was so desperate to find out what was going to happen. When I reread the end of the book now, I take time to savor moments like Ron's and Hermione's kiss, and I take time to tear up over the Prince's Tale chapter (I'm a huge Snape fan, by the way). Every time I read, "All was well" on the last page, I get a little sad because while all might be well for Harry, all isn't well for us because there won't ever be another Harry Potter book!
There are quite a few organizations/clubs at Hogwarts. Which you would rather join and why: Dueling Club, Dumbledore's Army, or S.P.E.W.?
I would definitely join the D.A.! Anything to rebel against that hag Umbridge! However, Snape was at the Dueling Club . . .
If you could attend Hogwarts, Which class do you think would be your favorite?
Hmm . . . While I'd definitely enjoy having Snape as a teacher for Potions, Charms would probably be my favorite class because of the magic I'd get to perform.
Which class would be your best, whether you liked it or not?
Well I'm kind of a Hermione, so it definitely wouldn't be Divination! I think my best class would be either Charms or Transfiguration, because it's a very precise art and I'd have a great teacher like McGonagall.
Okay, be honest. We got you this year with our April Fool's story about JKR writing a Potter prequel featuring Elvendork. However, if she really wrote it, it would be so...
Amazing!!! It would be so great to get to go through the whole waiting-for-a-new-book process again: the agonizing anticipation, the midnight release, and reading the book in 24 hours. I miss that so much, the movies (while they are great), just aren't the same.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I would like to add that even though it's the "sunkest" ship of them all (both Lily and Snape are dead, Lily married someone else, and Lily had the main character of the series with that someone else), LILY AND SEV WERE MEANT TO BE TOGETHER!
I would also like to add that Neville and Luna were meant to be together too!
I would also like to give a shout out to my sister Rosie who has to listen to me rave about Severus Snape all the time.
I would also like to give out a big, big shout out to my bestest friends Alexis, Clara, and Annie because they, like me, are devoted fans of A Very Potter Musical, the best Harry Potter parody in the history of the world. You guys, I love how we can just break into the "Moonshoes Potter" monologue at random times!
