Potter Profile - Roxanne
February 22, 2009
First off, how did you become a Harry Potter fan?
During the summer of 1999, when I was 11, a lady I knew through church asked if I
would read Sorcerer's Stone and tell her what I thought about it. She was a jr. high
school teacher, and since I was around the same age as her students, she was trying
to decide if her class would like it. I remember looking at the cover, and reading
the back summary, and I really didn't think it looked very interesting. But I read
it anyway, ended up loving it and finished within just a few days, and was craving
more. I was thrilled when she said that there was a second book, and a third soon to
be released. I read those as soon as I could, and have been following HP ever since.
How are you feeling now that the series is over?
It was strange when the final book came out, to finally have the whole story,
because I'd been reading and forming theories about the series for almost half my
life. For so long I'd looked forward to the day when I'd finally have the all the
answers, but at the same time I didn't want it to end. Harry Potter definitely
hasn't been as prominent on my mind since the series ended - I don't check the news
sites quite as often, I don't read much HP fanfic anymore, I don't talk on the
forums as much. But I still get really excited whenever there's a new interview with
Rowling, and she releases a little tidbit from the series that didn't make it in the
books. Basically the lack of new material has caused HP to move to the back burner,
but it's still very close to my heart, and I look forward to seeing how well the
series will continue to hold up in the future.
Is there any character you
wish had died or any character you wish hadn't died?
I expected a lot of deaths going into DH, and I understand the reasoning behind all
of those that were killed off, but Fred's death probably hit me the hardest. I
expected a Weasley death, if only because there's so many of them, but I thought
it'd be one of the oldest three brothers, perhaps Arthur or Molly - never did I
seriously consider that it'd be one of the twins. I especially feel so sorry for
George, having to go on without his other half.
Which Potter character do you relate to most?
Probably Hermione. I've always tried to do well in school, and I like to have
everything organized, and straighten out all the details when I'm planning for
something. I'm not quite as take-charge as she is, though, and am much more
easy-going.
Are you excited
for the movies to come, knowing how it all ends?
Definitely! Despite the cuts and changes, I've always loved the movies, and I've yet
to walk out of the theater disapointed. Sure, there are always little lines or
scenes that I wish had been kept, and other small annoyances, but on the whole I've
been pleased. I'm especially excited that they decided to split DH into two movies,
because I remember reading the book and wondering how in the world they'd fit
everything in.
How do you feel about Half-Blood Prince being
pushed to July?
Really annoyed, and the timing of the announcement made it so much worse! After
months of waiting, we finally got a teaser trailer to really hype our interest for
the movie, and then they tell us we have to wait another eight months.
If you could make the decision on
where Deathly Hallows would be split for movies 1 & 2, where would you
split it and why?
I can't remember where I heard first heard this suggestion, it may have been
MuggleCast, but I remember someone throwing out the idea that the first film end
right after they meet Xenophilius, when he says, "Are you referring to the sign of
the Deathly Hallows?" It leaves viewers with a nice little cliffhanger, and also
provides a good opening for part two.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
In addition to thanking Rowling for the amazing world that she's given us, I'd like
to thank her for naming George and Angelina's dauther Roxanne! I was beyond thrilled
when that was first announced, and love that I share a name with one of Rowling's
characters.
Also, thanks to my friends who have put up with all my Harry Potter talk over the
years!
