MuggleNet CoS Forums Server Appeal
You will remember a few months ago we posted a request for donations to help
pay for and maintain a brand new server for Chamber of Secrets Forums, the official
forums of MuggleNet. The donations received at the time were substantial and
allowed the administrators of CoS to purchase their new server and pay for monthly
costs ever since. The ads on MuggleNet unfortunately only raise enough money
to power the site itself, not the forums.
Unfortunately with the impending release of book six, CoS needs to not only upgrade its server but also purchase a second server in order to meet the demands of its ever-increasing membership and in particular the rush to discuss the Half-Blood Prince upon its release in July. The costs factored in (even with a deal with the host) still amount to several thousand dollars per year and though CoS owner, Matt has invested a large amount of his own money into the site, CoS is still going to fall rapidly short of support costs.
It's estimated that one server costs over $3,500 per year to run. Two servers will therefore cost $7,000 per year to maintain.
