MuggleNet report from the Red Carpet of “The Woman in Black” World Premiere in London
Earlier today, MuggleNet staffer Rosie attended the World Premiere for the soon-to-be-released thriller The Woman in Black, which was held at the Royal Festival Hall in London, England.
Here is Rosie’s report:
The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, in his first movie role since Harry Potter, is a chilling horror about a young grieving lawyer sent to clear a deceased woman’s affairs in a remote house only to encounter a terrifying presence within.
The cast and crew of the film were singing Dan’s praises at the premiere today in London, noting his professionalism and dedication to the role. “He had ten years on ‘Potter,’ he wants to take on new roles and play them to the best of his ability,” stated director James Watkins. “He researched it so deeply, he went and met with grief counselors and he read lots of Victorian books on grief. Just seeing an actor process, with both Ciaran and Dan, it was a wonderful experience.”
Presenter Jonathan Ross, whose wife Jane wrote the screenplay for the film, informed the press that: “There’s twenty minutes in the center of the film where Dan doesn’t say a word, he’s trapped in this house alone and it’s terrifying and at the same time it’s so memorable I think people are going to look at it as this classic scene from a modern horror.”
Dan himself stated, “People genuinely seem to be surprised by how scary it is…people think that when I say it’s dark, I’ve been saying things are dark for years, but this one really, really is!”
On the subject of today’s Oscar nominations for Harry Potter, Dan said, “I’m thrilled because Amanda [Knight] and Lisa [Tomblin] are nominated and they’re who did my make-up and hair for the last film and Amanda did my make-up for the whole ten years, so I’m just completely delighted. It’s fantastic, these are real amazing technical films and it’s a pleasure to have some of that nominated.”
