Dumbledore’s Army takes over Minecraft server

Back in July, we reported on a tip regarding a Harry Potter-themed Minecraft server called “Dumbledore’s Army.” It was due to open in August of 2013 but was pushed forward to December. At the beginning of 2014, we were granted VIP access by the creators and given a tour of the server.

Having only played Minecraft a few times, we had no idea what to expect. The video that had been posted in July gave us a tiny glimpse into the world created for Dumbledore’s Army, but it truly does not do the actual server justice.

The design of the world is absolutely amazing and very extensive. From Privet Drive to The Burrow and Shell Cottage, to our favorite area of game, the Great Hall, virtually every location from the HP universe is there, and every moment in the game is astounding. When we were escorted to the Great Hall as part of the tour, it literally gave us chills. Not one detail was missed, in our opinion, including the theme music from the movies, which was merely icing on the cake.

Here’s the really great part, as if there weren’t already a lot to look forward to. This isn’t just a regular Minecraft server. In this game, you can go to classes, ride the Gringotts carts to get to your own vault, learn potions and spells, including learning how to Apparate, play Quidditch, and interact with other fans of the Harry Potter world. One section of the game that is not yet open to the public so far is the Ministry of Magic, but you can bet that when it does open, it will knock your socks off. We were lucky enough to get a tour of the MoM, and just like Hogwarts, the level of detail and the amount of work the creators had to put into this just boggles the mind. The server officially opened to the public on December 22, 2013, and now hosts over 2,000 forum members. It’s clear that in the small amount of time they’ve been up and running they’ve made an impression on the HP universe.
