Role Call: The Best Things Come in Slytherin Packages

by Aimee Krenz · August 7, 2016

This week’s Role Call is a small one, as we assume the cast of our beloved Potter series are taking some time off to enjoy the summer holidays. We get a look at a new YouTube channel hosted by a ghostly favorite, speculate on the possibility of Draco in Scotland, and keep on remembering an old friend we lost this year. Take a look at what’s happening in MuggleNet’s weekly Casting News!

John Cleese (Nearly-Headless Nick) has announced via YouTube that he has started his own channel, and he did it in the weirdest way possible. Donning a mask of his own face and accompanied by a stuffed lemur, the actor told viewers that we can expect more rants, behind-the-scenes dish on his Monty Python co-stars, and pictures of cats. Check it out!

We previously told you about the drama Dunkirk, which will star Sir Kenneth Branagh (Professor Gilderoy Lockhart). A teaser trailer was released last week, and while it doesn’t show Branagh directly, the trailer gives you an idea what he’ll be doing in the film. Take a look below:

Set in 1940, the World War II flick focuses on the evacuation of Dunkirk and is set to premiere on July 19, 2017. A full trailer should now be airing ahead of the Warner Bros. film Suicide Squad, in theaters this weekend.

As we all anticipate the first appearance of Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) in the CW series The Flash, rumor has it that he is being considered for a role in the Starz third season of Outlander. Whether he could actually take a role if it was offered is another story, as he most certainly is contracted to The Flash for the full season. A producer for Outlander has confirmed via Twitter that they are currently casting for the new season, specifically a role that fans of both Tom and the Outlander series feel he could handle.

Fans began to name-drop Tom for the part of Lord John Grey, mostly because of his hair color and his accent, back in 2015. TVLine picked up the campaign, featuring Tom as the first in a top ten list of possible actors who could be cast. Let’s hope he can take on two roles at once, because let’s be honest – Tom can pull off a period costume with the best of them!

Eight months later and we are still mourning the loss of Alan Rickman (Severus Snape). It was revealed this week that one of his final films, Alice: Through the Looking Glass, is set for a Blu-ray and Digital HD release on October 18 with pre-order option available now.

Also starring in the film are Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Rhys Ifans (Xenophilius Lovegood), Timothy Spall (Peter Pettigrew/Wormtail), Frances de la Tour (Madame Maxime), Toby Jones (voice of Dobby), and Stephen Fry (voice of the British version of Harry Potter audiobooks).

That wraps MuggleNet’s Casting News for this week! We hope our favorite cast members are enjoying their summer and look forward to more casting announcements. Make sure to check in with us next week as we explore all the projects the cast will take on in the coming months!

“It was necessary. He’s extremely powerful. We’ve had to change his guard three times – he’s very… persuasive. So we removed his tongue.”
