10 Points to Gryffindor! Hermione Granger Voted Fan-Favorite Character!

by Megan Fischer · June 26, 2017

We reported earlier this month that Bloomsbury and National Book Tokens had teamed up to create a poll that would allow fans to vote for their favorite character in the series. Voting has now closed, the numbers are in, and everyone’s favorite frizzy-haired hero took the top spot!

Hermione Jean Granger came in with the most votes, taking 15% of over 10,000 votes cast!

Severus Snape took second place, with Luna Lovegood following in third. There were some surprising contenders, such as Bellatrix Lestrange, who took the #15 spot, and Lord Voldemort himself, who nabbed #18.

Voters were allowed to select a character from a pre-chosen list, or if their favorite character wasn’t listed, there was an option to write in their own. Some examples of characters that were written in are Pomona Sprout, Moaning Myrtle, and even Neville’s toad, Trevor! Molly Weasley accrued the most write-in votes.

The characters that took the top 20 spots are as follows:

  1.  Hermione Granger
  2.  Severus Snape
  3. Luna Lovegood
  4. Sirius Black
  5. Dobby
  6. Harry Potter
  7. Ron Weasley
  8. Albus Dumbledore
  9. Remus Lupin
  10. Minerva McGonagall
  11. Neville Longbottom
  12. Rubeus Hagrid
  13. Draco Malfoy
  14. Ginny Weasley
  15. Bellatrix Lestrange
  16. Nymphadora Tonks
  17. Fred Weasley
  18. Lord Voldemort
  19. George Weasley
  20. Gilderoy Lockhart

20 YEARS OF HARRY POTTER MAGIC

FAVOURITE HARRY POTTER CHARACTER POLL RESULTS

News release – Monday 26th June – 12:00pm

HERMIONE GRANGER VOTED FAVORITE CHARACTER FROM THE HARRY POTTER NOVELS

‘Books! And cleverness! There are more important things – friendship and bravery…’ Hermione Granger, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Hermione Granger has taken the number one spot in the vote to find the favorite character from the Harry Potter novels.

With over 10,000 votes cast in the space of two weeks Hermione Granger snatched the top spot from twenty carefully selected key characters. Hosted by National Book Tokens, the vote launched on 5th June as part of Bloomsbury’s campaign to celebrate 20 years since the first publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Hermione gained 15% of the overall vote putting her in first place. Hermione has appeared in all seven of the Harry Potter novels and came to be an integral part in Harry Potter’s legacy as well as one of his closest friends.

Severus Snape took second place and Luna Lovegood third. Harry Potter himself came in sixth place and Ron Weasley took seventh place. Dobby is the only non-human character to make the top ten at number five, with Sirius Black, Albus Dumbledore, Remus Lupin and Minvera McGonagall completing the top ten.

Voters could also suggest their own favorite characters outside of the 20 and of these Molly Weasely received the most votes. Some characters only received single votes including Pomona Sprout, Moaning Myrtle and Neville Longbottom’s toad Trevor!

Are you happy to see Hermione take the top prize? Or is there another character you would have rather seen win?
