Events Roundup: Butterbeer, House Parties, and Making New Friends

by Michele Berg · March 9, 2018

Potter fans in and around Blair, Nebraska, are in for quite a treat this weekend as the Blair Public Library and Technology Center holds its first “March Madness” event in its new home. The library will be transformed into a little piece of the wizarding world where wizards and witches ages ten and up can sample magical treats, try their hand at Potions class, decorate their very own wand, have their tea leaves read by a professor of Divination, and maybe even win a door prize!

Feeling the need to add to your Potter library and collection of merchandise? No need for Floo Powder, because there will be a Barnes & Noble shop located right in the library just for this event. Costumes are encouraged, and for any wishing to participate, there will be a Harry Potter fashion show at 9:00 p.m.

Library Director Gayle Roberts called the ‘Harry Potter’ books, which were also made into movies, modern classics that appeals to all ages, so she expects the event to be popular for all ages.

‘It will be an open house setting so people can come and go as they please, you don’t have to be here the entire time,’ Roberts said. ‘But, I can’t imagine people wanting to leave at any point.’

Unlike other events, Roberts said staff is asking those planning to attend to sign up ahead of time so there are enough materials available.

To sign up a link is available on the library’s website, www.libraries.ne.gov/blair; by calling 402-426-3617; or by sending a message through the library’s Facebook page. Participation will be limited to the first 200 people and registrations will be taken until it is filled.

For the 21 and older crowd, the City Lounge bar in Cudahy, Wisconsin, will be spending March 21 to April 8, 2018, dressed in the finest Hogwarts colors as they host a Harry Potter–themed pop-up bar for all three weeks. Guests will step through Platform 9 3/4 into wizarding world decor, complete with a custom drink menu, including butterbeer!

Pop-Up Bar Event Calendar:

March 21 – Harry Potter Trivia – 7:30 p.m.
March 23–24 – All Wizards Welcoming Party
March 30 – Themed Hufflepuff House Party
March 31 – Themed Gryffindor House Party
April 6 – Themed Ravenclaw House Party
April 7 – Themed Slytherin House Party

All parties will have a live DJ from 9:00 p.m. to closing time, so break out your best House colors to dance the night away (dress robes not required).

The bar has set up an event page on Facebook here, so be sure to add yourself to the over 8,500 interested Potter fans and tag your friends!

If you are attending either event, let us know below, and we’d love to hear about it afterward!

Potter Quote

“I don’t know who Maxime thinks she’s kidding. If Hagrid’s half-giant, she definitely is. Big bones… the only thing that’s got bigger bones than her is a dinosaur.”
