Castium Revelio: Final Talks and One Film Shelved?

by Mary Wojcicki · August 11, 2018

Welcome back to another week of MuggleNet’s Casting News! As always, this is your place for the latest information on what our magical alumni have been up to, and this week includes some news from the rumor mill! Castium Revelio!

Harry Potter
Our first piece of news for this week’s update comes from the rumor mill! Screen Rant writes that Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort) is possibly being considered for a role in the fourth film of the Kingsman series, a prequel, which will reportedly begin filming back-to-back with the third film in the series early next year.

… [I]t sounds like the studio is seeking a historical counterpart to Eggsy and Harry - except, of course, that while Eggsy hails from a council estate, the young lead of 'The Great Game' will apparently have a noble background. Fiennes, who played another British spy in the 1998 film 'The Avengers' and Gareth Mallory/M in the recent 'James Bond' movies, is natural casting for a mentor role within Kingsman. As for the younger lead, there's a rich crop of talented up-and-coming British actors at the moment, so [director Matthew] Vaughn will be somewhat spoiled for choice.

We now have a UK trailer for The Last Witness, which stars Sir Michael Gambon (Albus Dumbledore) and Alex Pettyfer. Seenit writes that the film, “a political thriller based on the harrowing true events of the Katlyn Massacre” in 1940, will premiere at the ArtHouse Crouch End on August 17. Additionally, a Q&A session about the film will be held at the ArtHouse on August 18, and the film will continue to screen exclusively at the ArtHouse until August 23.

If you can’t get to the venue, don’t worry! The film will be released on digital and DVD on August 27 and can be preordered now.

Check out the trailer below!

Brendan Gleeson (Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody) is returning to television this month with the second season of his AT&T Audience Network series, Mr. Mercedes! Showbiz Junkies writes that the second season of the show, which is based on the Bill Hodges trilogy by Stephen King, will premiere on the AT&T Audience Network on August 22, 2018, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

The second season takes place a year after Brady Hartsfield’s thwarted attempt to perpetrate a second mass murder in the community of Bridgton, Ohio. Since the incident, Hartsfield has been hospitalized in a vegetative state. Retired Detective Bill Hodges has done his best to move on from his Brady obsession, teaming up with Holly Gibney to open Finders Keepers, a private investigative agency. But when unexplainable occurrences begin to affect hospital staff members attending to Brady, Hodges is haunted by the feeling that Brady is somehow responsible.

Check out a behind-the-scenes video for Season 2 of Mr. Mercedes below!

Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley) can be seen in a new clip about his upcoming film The Little Stranger. The Independent posted the exclusive clip, which features footage from the film plus commentary from Gleeson and others. You can check it out on their website.

Based on the 2009 novel by Sarah Waters, the film sees director Lenny Abrahamson, best known for the Academy Award-nominated ['Room'], invoke a story that mixes psychological thrills, supernatural occurrences, swooning romance, and even a dash of wry humour.

The Little Stranger will be released in the UK on September 21.

Fantastic Beasts
It looks as though fans won’t get to see Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindelwald) in the crime film City of Lies after all! The Guardian writes that the film, which was scheduled for its US release next month, appears to have been shelved entirely. Both the film’s distributor and its production company had no comment.

Distributor Global Road Entertainment confirmed to industry press on Monday that the film would no longer be released in the US on 7 September as planned but did not give further comment or any indication of a new release date.

Good Films Productions, the company behind 'City of Lies', did not respond immediately to the Guardian’s request for comment.

Ezra Miller’s (Credence Barebone) solo film as the Flash, the DC Extended Universe superhero, could possibly begin filming next year! CBR writes that the project, which is titled The Flash, will reportedly begin filming in Atlanta in February 2019.

According to PursueNews, which spotted a recent Production Weekly listing indicating as much, 'The Flash' will begin production in February 2019, in Atlanta, Georgia.

CBR adds that this is a departure from rumors that filming would take place in London, England.

Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander) is reportedly in talks to star in the thriller film The Good Nurse, in which Jessica Chastain is also likely to star. ComingSoon.net reported the news.

'The Good Nurse' is a true story that centers around the pursuit and capture of serial killer Charlie Cullen, who is also known as the 'Angel of Death.' Cullen is one of the most prolific serial killers in history. He has killed more than 300 patients over the course of 16 years that spread across nine hospitals in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Redmayne will play Cullen while Chastain will play Amy Loughren, a nurse and Cullen’s co-worker, whose dogged pursuit helped end the killing spree.

That’s all for this week’s Casting News, but be sure to come back next week for even more great updates! Until then, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
