Awards Roundup: Sonia Friedman Wins Producer of the Year and More!

by Gretchen Roesch · February 17, 2019

The awards keep coming for the wizarding world cast and crew members! Check out the recent nominations and wins below.

BAFTA Special Awards

Roger Pratt, who was the director of photography on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was presented with a BAFTA Special Award for outstanding contribution to cinematography.

The Stage Awards 2019

Sonia Friedman, the producer of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, received the Producer of the Year award for the fourth time in five years at the Stage Awards. Friedman focused on holding on to hope in the face of the uncertain future.

We are going through tough times, this industry. I hope we can all hold together, particularly in the West End. It feels as though we heading into unknown territory with Brexit. But I believe great art will always thrive and audiences will always follow it.

Directors Guild of America Awards

Don't worry, Alfonso Cuarón is still winning for Roma. He recently won Best Feature Film Director at the Directors Guild of America Awards, which might be hinting at a future Oscar win for him.

British LGBT Awards

The British LGBT Awards honor celebrities and companies working to promote and support LGBT+ rights. Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone) is up for 2019's LGBT+ Celebrity Award, which honors a celebrity who is a role model for others and supports the community. The awards will take place on May 17 in London, England.

BAFTA Awards

Cuarón took home more awards at the BAFTA awards ceremony, winning in the director and cinematography categories for Roma. The movie also won Best Film and Film Not in the English Language.
