“Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” Global Challenge Coming in September

by Hannah Howard · August 29, 2019

For those who are able to attend, there will be a Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Fan Festival happening at White River State Park in Indianapolis, Indiana, this Labor Day weekend. For those who are unable to attend, there is a global event happening in conjunction!

This grand event will include new Portkeys and even more exciting – dragons! The new Portkeys and the introduction to dragons will go hand in hand, with fans needing to use the Portkeys to find dragon eggs. The new content for players outside of Indianapolis will vary by region. Together within each region, Wizards Unite players will need to find a certain number of dragon eggs to unlock the dragons.

While all four of the dragons pictured below will appear at the event in Indianapolis, they will disperse and appear individually on September 7. Each of the four dragons will appear in a different region. The Common Welsh Green will appear in Europe and Africa, the Antipodean Opaleye in Oceania, the Peruvian Vipertooth in the Americas and Greenland, and the Chinese Fireball in Asia, the Middle East, and India.

You may recognize some of these dragons from Harry’s fourth year at Hogwarts!

There is also a special, additional challenge for attendees of the Indianapolis event. If they collectively return 150,000 dragons, a special three-hour Day of the Dragons event will be unlocked for fans around the world. If the 150,000 dragon milestone is reached, the global event will be available at these times:

  • Asia-Pacific: September 7, 1–4 p.m. AEST (UTC +10)
  • Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: September 7, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. UTC
  • The Americas and Greenland: September 7, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. PDT (UTC -7)

The Portmanteaus should be very easy to identify in the app surroundings, and each one will match the color of the dragon egg that it will transport you to.

Look out for one of these fun Portkeys if you’re in search of a dragon egg!

From September 2 at 10 a.m. PDT through September 9 at 10 a.m. PDT, fans can track the number of eggs they find and earn special rewards for milestones.

Fan Festival Global Challenge

Can’t make it to Indianapolis for the first Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Fan Festival? Don’t worry, you’ve still got an action-packed weekend in store! We’re excited to announce the Fan Festival Global Challenge, a challenge in which players all around the world will be able to encounter four new types of Portkey Portmanteaus throughout the weekend. Each of these special Portmanteaus will contain a Portkey that will transport you to the Forbidden Forest where you’ll have the opportunity to collect one of four Dragon Eggs. You’ll be able to easily identify these special Portmanteaus on the map, as they’ll match the color of the Dragon Egg found within.

Throughout the weekend we’ll be tracking the number of Dragon Eggs collected, and if certain milestones are reached, players will unlock a variety of rewards starting from September 2 at 10:00 A.M. PDT to September 9 at 10 A.M. PDT. Each Dragon Egg is associated with a reward shown below, so make sure to collect Portmanteaus linked with the reward you’re most interested in earning. We’ll be posting progress updates on our social channels throughout the event, so make sure to follow along!

If attendees are successful, a special Day of the Dragons event will take place on September 7. During this 3-hour period, each region will be visited by a Dragon not typically found in the area. The exact type of Dragon will depend on which type of Dragon Egg was collected the most in that specific region during the Global Challenge. For example, if players in Asia collect more Antipodean Opaleye Dragon eggs than any other type during the Global Challenge, they will encounter Antipodean Opaleye Oddities for the 3-hour event and receive bonus XP for all Dragons returned during the Day of the Dragons!

[The] Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Fan Festival is shaping up to be an incredible event and we can’t wait for you to take part, no matter where in the world you are. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for the latest updates, and discuss the upcoming event with your fellow witches and wizards on the community forum.
