Wizarding Christmas Gifts That All Muggles Would Appreciate

by Emily Lawrence · December 12, 2019

It’s no secret that many out there are die-hard Harry Potter fans (myself very much included). We spend hours daydreaming of a life in the wizarding world, perhaps searching the skies for an owl with our long-awaited Hogwarts letters. So in that spirit, here’s a Christmas list of some of the best wizarding gifts that any Muggle would appreciate. Let’s celebrate some of the coolest and quirkiest objects in the wizarding world.

Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes Products

This is a one-stop shop guaranteed to satisfy the curiosity of any Muggle – particularly if said Muggle has a pranking streak! From Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder to fake a blackout or a sampling of Puking Pastilles or Nosebleed Nougat to get out of something unpleasant, the Weasleys’ joke shop has it all. Just make sure your purchases are Muggle-friendly and won’t upset the delicate balance that is the International Statute of Secrecy!

Pygmy Puff

Many of the creatures in the wizarding world are too adorable for words! A Pygmy Puff is a sure winner for a Muggle wanting a magical pet – they’re harmless and come in various shades of pink and purple. Available for sale at Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, they are much less destructive than creatures like Nifflers and could easily be explained away as an “exotic breed of guinea pig” to any suspicious Muggles.

Various Vouchers for Exciting Experiences

How about a wizarding experience? It could be a trip to Muggle-friendly locations in the wizarding world like Diagon Alley or perhaps a row across the Black Lake for a chance to see the Giant Squid! Smaller but no less exciting experiences could include side-along Apparition (legally of course) or a guided Potions class. Be sure to check the specifics of performing magic in front of Muggle friends and family first!

Goblin-Made Jewelry

Perhaps you need a gift for that special Muggle in your life? A piece of goblin-made jewelry or other metalwork is a sure-fire way to let them know how much they mean to you. Goblin-made objects are of such fine quality that even wizards have been unable to recreate their equal. With handy features like dirt-repulsion and no need for cleaning, this is a gift that will last for generations.

Grow Your Own – Wizarding Plants

The wizarding world is simply full of different plant species, but you’ll have to be very careful when choosing the right one. Species like mandrakes and Devil’s Snare are absolutely not safe options for your Muggles; not even cuttings in flowerpots are safe for an unsuspecting Muggle to be around! One possible option is the charming Flutterby Bush, which quivers and waves, a perfect plant to add a bit of wizarding charm to your Muggle’s home!

Enchanted Toy Models

From Firebolts to miniature dragons or even Quidditch stars like Victor Krum, animated toy models seem to be a popular gift in the wizarding world that should be fine for your Muggle friends! Less dangerous or problematic than real broomsticks or magical creatures, these miniatures will provide hours of endless fun and provide a cool memento of the wizarding world.

A Floo Connection

A Floo Connection could be a really handy upgrade to your Muggle’s home! Temporary connections can be obtained, but imagine the joy of having your own personal teleportation system! As an Australian, I know that many of us would kill for a relatively instant connection to wizarding locations around the world. Just be sure to explain very carefully about the importance of enunciation.

An Invisibility Cloak

There’s only one true invisibility cloak, so I don’t expect that for Christmas, but as another more meaningful and special gift, invisibility cloaks are right up there on a list of best presents ever. Invisibility cloaks are very rare and rather pricey, so if your Christmas budget doesn’t stretch that far this year, how about a Disillusionment Charm so that your Muggle can experience being a human chameleon?

Wizarding Food

Why not treat your Muggle with some of Honeydukes’ best sweets and chocolate or a real butterbeer from the Three Broomsticks (or equivalent pub?). You could also try drinks like firewhisky for any over-age friends!

Wizarding Books

The great thing about shopping for your Muggle friends is that they are guaranteed to be fascinated by everything. For any Hermiones that you may know, a nice thick textbook on an area that they’re fascinated by would be a solid choice. You could also opt for a novel or autobiography – Hairy Snout, Human Heart, for example? I probably wouldn’t recommend Lockhart’s books, just because of the whole fraud thing.

A note on wrapping: delivery by Owl Post would mean the world to the Muggles in your life, but avoid arousing suspicion and send them at appropriate times of the day. Alternatively, you could try your local Muggle postal system – be sure to check the formatting beforehand!

Whether these gifts are for your modern Harry Potter Muggle/No-Maj fan or some ideas for witches and wizards searching for the perfect gift to surprise the Muggles in their lives, these options will provide suitable, relatively safe gifts. But please, no nose-biting teacups!
