The Zodiac Signs as Magical Creatures – Part 1

by Chelsea Korynta · March 20, 2020

I want to live in the wizarding world for a million different reasons. While I’ll never get to attend Divination class with Professor Trelawney, studying astrology is a fun hobby even Muggles can enjoy. Keep reading to discover which magical creature corresponds with your sun sign based on your birthday.

Dragon – Aries (March 21 – April 19)

No sign quite embodies the marvelous dragon like Aries. This sign is ruled by Mars, named for the Roman god of war. It makes sense when you consider how Aries handle competition. Just like Harry learned during the first task of the Triwizard Tournament, dragons will fight to the death to win just like an Aries. While an Aries might not be able to breathe fire, their bold personalities are just as marvelous and attention-grabbing as a dragon’s. It’s easy to be awestruck by dragons and Aries; just don’t get on their bad sides.

Demiguise – Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Just like the Demiguise, a Taurus is a typically peaceful creature. However, both will bite when provoked, so to speak. Represented by the bull, Taureans are known for their stereotypical stubbornness. Similarly, a Demiguise is almost impossible to capture, although many magical folks would love to get their hands on one of these magical creatures to use their coats for invisibility cloaks. Additionally, Taureans strive for consistency and predictability in their lives. Of course, the Demiguise’s most notable feature is their ability to predict the future. The best way to throw off a Demiguise or a Taurus is to do something completely unpredictable.

Kneazle – Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Geminis are smart as a whip, just like Hermione’s half-Kneazle pet, Crookshanks. Kneazles and Geminis are kitten-like in their playfulness and curiosity. Gemini is ruled by the planet Mercury, the planet of communication, so it’s no surprise that they love to talk. While we don’t see Crookshanks talking in the Potter series, we see him attempt to deliver an important message to the trio about Ron’s rat, Scabbers. Gemini means “twins” in Latin, and those born under this sign are characterized by their duality. While Crookshanks might look like your typical house cat, his Kneazle ability to sniff out untrustworthiness helps save the day when he reveals Peter Pettigrew is still alive.

Acromantula – Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Source

It can be intimidating to get to know a Cancer – and an Acromantula. However, as Hagrid will proudly tell you, it only takes time to reveal the incredibly caring, loyal side of an Acromantula (and a Cancer). Those born under the sign of Cancer take pride in their living space and tend to become rather attached to it. Cancers also tend to form strong connections with their friends and family and can be very protective of the ones they love. Sounds familiar to me. Aragog and his huge spider-children would protect Hagrid at all costs but are immediately down to eat two 12-year-old boys who wander into their colony.

Hippogriff – Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Source

Hippogriffs are magical half-eagles, half-horses – as well as total show-offs who know how majestic they are. That’s why Hagrid chose Hippogriffs for his first Care of Magical Creatures lesson – they are truly marvelous creatures. Leos have that same marvelous quality about them, and they want you to remember it. As we know from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, insulting a Hippogriff may just be the last thing you ever do. In the same way, Leos are terribly prideful and might fall victim to their own egos at times.

House-Elf – Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Source

Virgos and house-elves are the hardest working individuals you’ll ever meet. Helping out the people they love gives them joy, and they always strive for perfection. However, when things don’t go exactly as planned, Virgos and house-elves tend to beat themselves up (figuratively, and in Dobby’s case, literally). Virgos, like Dobby, believe that even the most difficult problems can be solved, and they’ll do whatever it takes to fix what is broken.

Don’t see your sun sign listed here? Stick around for part two to find out which fantastic beast best represents your zodiac sign!
