Review and Giveaway: Win a Honeydukes and a Chocolate Frog Bag from Danielle Nicole!

by Amy Hogan, Meg Scott · June 27, 2020

Harry Potter sweet treats are in! We are suckers for a good bag. We know it; our friends know it… You get the point. Add a subtle yet obvious-to-other-fans geeky vibe, and we’re head over heels. Check out what our Creative Media Manager Amy Hogan and our Copy Editing Coordinator Meg Scott thought of these delectable fashion pieces.

————————

Danielle Nicole makes beautiful bags, and her line of Harry Potter- and Disney-inspired creations has some of my favorites. The new additions, inspired by the sweets of the wizarding world, are no exception. Out of the two new releases, I received the Chocolate Frog crossbody bag.

It’s a little bit larger than I had expected, making for a roomy interior to store a wallet, keys, and other necessities. The blue color of the body of the bag and the adjustable strap is somewhat iridescent. The design on the front of the bag is colorful and fun. You don’t really notice anything inherently Harry Potter–esque about it until you pick out the Chocolate Frog in the center; then you may notice the additional frogs that form the border around the design. The back of the bag is blank, with the brand name printed at the bottom.

Working our way into the interior of the bag, the zipper pull is also in the shape of a frog. The inside liner is plain, except for the markings of the brand name. There’s a small pocket for the storage of easy-to-lose items sewn into the liner.

There’s some really nice detail work on the front design of this bag. The gold and red flowers are embroidered, adding some dimension, and there are some silver studs added closer to the middle for some shine. I do wish that the entire design was embroidered instead of printed on the bag. I think that would take this bag to the next level as far as quality goes. Perhaps it could have been made a little smaller to make such a thing more cost-effective in production.

Overall, this is a really nice bag. I would recommend it to other fans like me, who like to show off their fandom but in a more grown-up, subtle way. I hope Danielle Nicole makes a wallet version or smaller style of this for me to snatch up!

Reaching into the Honeydukes crossbody bag

The Honeydukes cylinder crossbody bag by Danielle Nicole is just as sweet as the candy shop itself; its color scheme of pink-hued lavender with dark mint stripes instantly makes me think of pastel-colored taffy being looped on a pulling machine. The exterior of the bag is made of polyurethane, which is waterproof, so you can enjoy this on a sunny day by the Hogwarts lake or a drizzly London afternoon in Diagon Alley. In contrast to the matte finish of the bag, the chain strap is as golden and shimmering as a Golden Snitch. The chain is 12.75″ long and not adjustable. I am 5’5″ and it hits me just below the hip.

The top of the Honeydukes bag features a secure magnetic snap closure in a shining gold to match the strap. Inside, the bag is lined with a gentle black fabric and even includes a pocket to store a packet of Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum. At a height of 10.375″ and a diameter of 4.5″, this bag could hold approximately 1,237 individual Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans. That’s a lot of beans! When not filled with jelly beans, the bag is a comfortable weight on my shoulder, not so heavy that it becomes a bother. I worried the cylindrical shape would have it rolling to and fro across my upper thighs, but it easily stays in one place. It’s rather bulky to wear in the front, but placed just behind me, it is not cumbersome at all. Just make sure no poltergeists sneak up behind you to steal your sweets. Constant vigilance!
