Wizolympics 2020: Doppo the Demiguise Update

by Kathryn Mudgway · August 4, 2020

Ohayo gozaimasu! Good morning! Tokyo 2020 Wizolympic Junior Magical Beasts Caretaker Eliana Yamamoto here, still on the lookout for our missing mascot. The team and I are currently on the road in the Chiba prefecture today. We feel like we’re getting close, but we’re double-checking places nearby now just in case. Thank you to everyone who has decided to help us look for Doppo so far! We’ve been keeping track of your stories from our colleagues on-site at the Games. The reports sound very Doppo, so our hopes remain high. Keep up the great work! We couldn’t do this without you.

Here are some of our leads. Oh, Doppo.

Gnome Toss Final – Shinjuku Gyoen

According to notes we were given, Doppo was definitely at the gnome toss final. We’ll confirm the officials’ suspicion. Were you there? Do you remember seeing him? We’re sorry he caused a disruption, but as most of you know, Doppo is very empathetic. He probably didn’t know what was going on and only cared about the gnomes’ well-being at the time. That’s why he tried to save them. He couldn’t handle it and wanted to make sure they were taken to a safer place. The reason he never came back was that everything that happened afterward scared him off. You probably saw him shed a tear before he disappeared.

Doppo is TikTok famous!

This is without a doubt my favorite report so far. According to close sources, Doppo is a rising TikTok star! Of course he would be. Have you seen him? We love him too. Apparently, he took the German Expedition Wandless team’s mobile phone and started to randomly post videos. He took it from them along the Shikoku Pilgrimage on Day 6 of the event – that’s when fans noticed a change in their video content. They’re not super creative TikToks, but he’s posting enough for the videos to make it into some fans’ “For You” feed, which recommends videos. If you think you saw him in a TikTok and know where he might be, please let us know. We know we’re getting closer.

Befriending/Caring for Hippogriffs

I’ve only known Doppo for a couple of months, but one thing you can count on is that he won’t hesitate to look after another creature, human or otherwise, even if they aren’t in immediate danger. So we weren’t surprised when we started getting reports of very sociable hippogriffs. It seemed like they were having a great time. Doppo was probably just making sure they were okay, especially since those particular hippogriffs had an event coming up. He doesn’t know what the Games are, but he can sense how another human or creature is feeling. That’s one of my favorite things about Doppo. You’ll know if you’ve screwed up too. His reactions tell you everything you need to know. We’re always hyperaware when we’re around him.

We really can’t wait for you to meet him at the Closing Ceremony – assuming he turns up by then. It looks like he was last sighted near Kahaku Dome, so we’ll head back to the Tokyo area soon just as a precaution. Remember, if you think you see him, please alert the nearest Games staff, stand by should they need your assistance, don’t scare him, and try not to be predictable. Give us as much information as you can, and we’ll do the rest. Stay safe, practice social distancing, wash your hands, and wear your Bubble-Head Charms. See you all soon!
