Molly Weasley’s Yarn Selections for Perfectly Magical Holiday Gifts

by Alison Siggard · December 7, 2020

The days are getting chilly, nights are getting longer, and it’s only natural for thoughts to turn to warm and cozy options. And no one makes warm and cozy like Molly Weasley! Famous for her beautiful yearly handmade Christmas jumpers, Molly is a prolific knitter whose talent has brought joy and comfort to her family. Harry was also the grateful recipient of several Weasley sweaters, all in creative and thoughtful patterns. But what might Molly’s knitting needles make for other characters in the series?

Luna:

For Luna, Molly would surely pick this yarn in a beautiful shade of blue for a light, airy sweater. Made of lovely merino wool, it’s perfect for daydreaming under the sky and matching with Spectrespecs!

Fleur:

Though it took a while, Molly eventually came around to liking and appreciating her first daughter-in-law. Naturally, Fleur would be included in the annual sweater creation, and this cozy lavender option or a luxurious touch of alpaca blend is sure to appeal to Fleur’s sense of refined French style.

Draco:

A Malfoy demands only the best, so only the best yarn can be used for Draco’s sweater or a handsome scarf. 100% cashmere yarn in a stately shade of green would even be perfect for a matching piece for son Scorpius (who might end up an official part of the Weasley family soon anyway!)

Dobby:

Though Molly is most likely to make sweaters for her loved ones, she’d surely make an exception and create oodles of socks for Dobby. Any of these gorgeous merino wool sets would be perfect, but these bright colors would appeal most to our favorite house-elf’s taste.

McGonagall:

Wool is a traditional texture in Scotland, and Minerva would love something that reminds her of her childhood home. Here, a lovely, fine baby alpaca wool in a gorgeous jade green will make a wonderful scarf or hat to bring a smile to the stern Transfiguration teacher’s face.

Tonks:

A punk rock witch needs a punk rock look full of colors as bright as her ever-changing hair. In shocking Weird Sisters-approved pink, Tonks’s sweater will stand out in any situation in the best way.

Hagrid:

Though he mostly dresses in colors that won’t show the effects of his outdoor work, the holidays call for more festive colors. This brilliant yet earthy orange is the perfect option for Hagrid. Be sure to stock up; it will take more yarn than usual!

Lupin:

If anyone is in need of a comforting sweater at any given moment, it’s Remus Lupin. In a warm brown reminiscent of chocolate, this is sure to do the trick of reminding him just how much his friends care for him.
