Fan Focus: Nathalie – January 5, 2022

by Sarah Wylde · January 5, 2022

Welcome back, friends! Every two weeks, MuggleNet introduces and highlights a Wizarding World fan in Fan Focus. In this edition, we meet Nathalie, a Canadian Gryffindor who has a life-size version of a Harry Potter character!

How did you become a Wizarding World fan?

When I read the first paragraph of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, I was hooked.

If you could have one prop from the set of Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts, what would it be?

Mrs. Weasley’s self knitting needles; I’m a knitter and love the Weasley home. The self-knitting needles would look amazing in my office/spare room on a chair.

What is your favorite Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts memory?

My favorite Harry Potter memory is from 2019 with one of my kids, my son Marc – watching him see the magic come to life. As a single mom of four, money was always tight when the kids were little. But I always felt reading and books were a necessity. Harry Potter gave me and my kids magic, while life didn’t always give us that. It also gave us things to talk about, share, and enjoy as a family and watch together when the movies finally came out.

Have you been to the Wizarding World? If yes, what is your favorite memory? If not, what would you want to do first if you could go there?

The first time we went to Universal was in 2017. I was so excited. I’d watched the movies at least a [hundred] times [and] read the books just as often. I bought an interactive wand and robe and felt like a kid again. There is no one favorite memory; the experience to me of a place where we can all be kids and dress up and play is the real magic.

If you could spend a day with a character from Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts, who would it be and why?

I’d love to spend the day not with a character but with the author, and simply to say thank you for bringing all this magic to us. I’ve met so many wonderful fans in person and online. I’ve created an office/spare room [dedicated] to Harry Potter because [it is] my getaway from the stress of the world. It’s a place where I can let my hair down [and] look around at amazing art and props from the movies.

What is your favorite quote from the Wizarding World?

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”  – Dumbledore

I truly believe that happiness is a choice we all make every day. Yes, we can have bad days. Life can truly be hard. But we can be happy – we just have to turn on the light and see the good things around us that are still there.

A life sized Dobby.

Potter Quote

“My brothers, my sisters. The clock is ticking faster. We who live for freedom, for truth, and for love. The moment has come to share my vision of the future that awaits if we do not rise up and take our rightful place in the world. Where we wizards are free. Aurors, join me in this circle, pledge to me your eternal allegiance, or die.”
