More Beasts Revealed in “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” Featurette

by Cristina Elizabeth · March 28, 2022

There is less than one month until the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, and Warner Bros. has given us another look into the new film, which shows the return of some well-known magical creatures and introduces a few more.

The video features commentary from producer David Heyman, director David Yates, VFX supervisor Christian Manz, Eddie Redmayne (Newt Scamander), Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore), and Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone), who talk about magical creatures with clips from the movie.

The video shows that Teddy the Niffler and Pickett the Bowtruckle have returned for the third installment of the series and play an important role in this film. Redmayne revealed that while these creatures can sometimes cause havoc for Newt, “they’ve sort of sat into their roles as heroes in this film.”

Credence’s phoenix is also shown in this featurette. Miller highlights that from the Potter series, we know that phoenixes come to Dumbledores who are in need and shared that “this phoenix found Credence. We get the sense that he cares for Credence and is trying to protect him.”

New beasts have been introduced, like the wyvern, which is a bird-like, two-legged dragon with massive wings, and manticores, which are traditionally described as having a human head, the body of a lion, and the tail of a dragon or scorpion.

However, in the video, Redmayne describes manticores as “sweet little crab-like things that are obviously in no way, shape, or form sweet.”  Despite this difference, Heyman confirmed that the small creatures were small manticores at a fan event in Tokyo.

Speaking about the new creatures, Yates shared his excitement for movies that focus more on beasts.

After the Harry Potter films, I was desperate to make a film where we could just explore beautiful, mysterious, magical creatures. I couldn’t be more excited to join them on their adventure.

Check out the new Secrets of Dumbledore featurette below.

With the introduction of these new creatures for fans to get to know, it’s only fair that the cast of Secrets of Dumbledore put their knowledge to the test. Wizarding World Digital shared a tweet of Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski), Ezra Miller, Eddie Redmayne, Mads Mikkelsen (Gellert Grindelwald), Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein), Richard Coyle (Aberforth Dumbledore), and Jessica Williams (Eulalie “Lally” Hicks) being quizzed on their knowledge of Muggle and magical creatures, including Dracorex hogswartsia, the Flobberworm, and the grindylow.

Check out the video below to see how the cast did and who came out on top.
