Accio Sustainability: Warner Bros. Studio Tour London Introduces Electric Shuttle Buses and Vegan Offerings

by Kelly Christ · June 9, 2022

The Wizarding World franchise is continuing to make progress in promoting sustainability across its operations. The construction of Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter, scheduled to open in 2023, has protected the existing green space of the area by planting new trees to replace any that had to be removed due to age or the construction. Earlier this year, Universal Studios Hollywood, home to a Wizarding World of Harry Potter themed area, recently unveiled four electric Studio Tour trams.

Now, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter has announced the replacement of the gas shuttle bus service in favor of zero-emission electric buses on the route between the Studio Tour in Leavesden and Watford Junction station. Like the previous gas shuttle service, the new electric bus service is free for all guests with a valid Studio Tour ticket for the day of travel. Unlike the gas service, the electric buses will prevent more than 291 tons (264 tonnes) of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year. Geoff Spooner, SVP and general manager of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, expressed enthusiasm about the change.

We’re delighted to have made the move to fully electric shuttle buses for our visitors and staff at the Studio Tour as part of our commitment to sustainability.

In addition to the electric buses, the Studio Tour recently announced new plant-based offerings for afternoon tea. The sandwich options on the vegan menu include Cucumber on a Malted Bloomer, Vegan Smoked Salmon with Vegan Lemon Butter on a Malted Bloomer, and Vegan Cheese and Tomato on a White Bloomer. Other options include an Herb Crusted Vegan Sausage Roll, a Chocolate Frog Brownie, and a Gingerbread Witches Hat.

Both the vegan afternoon tea and the traditional afternoon tea are available as add-ons to Studio Tour tickets. Tables for two are available for 90-minute time slots for £60.00 each. Champagne Afternoon Tea for Two, which includes a glass of Palmer & Co Brut Reserve, is available with both the vegan and traditional menu for guests over 18 for £90.00.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter themed areas at Universal Orlando Resort similarly expanded their offerings for vegan visitors recently, unveiling new vegan-labeled menu offerings earlier this year, including Jackfruit & Mushroom Pie Platters, vegan Irish Stews, and vegan Shepherd’s Pasty Pies.

Expanded menus and electric buses aren’t the only things new to the Studio Tour. Warner Bros. also recently announced the reopening and expansion of the number four, Privet Drive set. The set has been further opened to see into the living room, which includes a flurry of Hogwarts letters, modeled after the scene in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Alongside the living room expansion, fans can now see the kitchen and dining area. This area is decorated with a messy set, showcasing the infamous incident in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in which Harry accidentally inflates his Aunt Marge in a fit of anger. In response to a fan comment on Instagram, Warner Bros. confirmed that the newly expanded number four, Privet Drive will be a permanent set.

Potter Quote

“I’m three years older than you were when you fought You-Know– Who over the Sorcerer’s Stone and it’s because of me Malfoy’s stuck back in Umbridge’s office with giant flying bogeys attacking him!”
