Butterbeer Season Begins Today

by Elyse Maupin-Thomas · March 15, 2024

It’s hardly a secret that the Harry Potter series awakened a new generation of foodies. From Harry’s first experience with Chocolate Frogs to the mouthwatering feasts that marked the beginning of each year at Hogwarts, the books inevitably left fans hungry to try the treats themselves – none more so, of course, than butterbeer, the iconic warming beverage that debuted in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which has since inspired a multitude of both fan- and franchise-created recipes.

For those with that distinctive butterscotch and shortbread flavor ever on their minds, today is certainly one to celebrate. The Wizarding World franchise has announced the start of Butterbeer Season, a time spanning from March 15 to April 30 in which fans will be able to enjoy the magical concoction in new and delicious ways. Let’s break down the festivities and offerings available during this most glorious season.

Butterbeer Season is coming to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

Come share Butterbeer with your friends. Sip a mug of the iconic drink, enjoy favorites like ice cream, fudge, or potted cream, and keep your eyes peeled for a new, limited-time Butterbeer treat! pic.twitter.com/6r8qm3WCBS

At Universal Studios Hollywood, guests will be thrilled to find Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Counter will soon be coming to Honedukes. Opening on March 29, ten soft-serve flavors will be available, including banana, chocolate, Granny Smith apple, mint, orange, pistachio, toffee apple, toffee nut, vanilla, and of course, butterbeer.

Both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort will have special butterbeer-themed treats available. We hear reports of a butterbeer ice lolly coming soon, as well as decadent butterbeer caramels. The usual selections, such as the beverage in cold, frozen, hot, and non-dairy forms, as well as fudge and potted cream, will continue to be sold in the parks, but guests will be able to purchase the cold and frozen versions in a special collectible silver stein for the duration of the season.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London will be participating in the fun as well. Backlot Cafe’s usual offering of a souvenir tankard will be available, as will a souvenir dish of butterbeer ice cream and a butterbeer cupcake, all on a bespoke tray. Frog Cafe will commemorate the season with butterbeer pancakes, butterbeer blondies, and butterbeer lattes.

It's official, @HarryPotterNY will be home to New York's only Butterbeer Bar! Take your pick from a frothy cup of draft Butterbeer, a refreshing Butterbeer ice cream, or freshly poured bottled Butterbeer, opening June 3rd. pic.twitter.com/1SAv323wzV

If you happen to drop in at Harry Potter New York, the Butterbeer Bar will be worth a visit. It will have a new butterbeer muffin available for purchase, along with ice cream and the drink in both draft and bottled versions.

For those unable to travel, the butterbeer may be coming to you. A butterbeer truck will be traveling around some portions of the United States to bring the sweet concoction to those lucky enough to happen upon it. More information on the truck will be coming soon, but we do know that it will have special giveaways, including butterbeer-branded totes and other merchandise.

The new butterbeer tankard pin is the perfect way to keep that warmed-from-the-inside feeling all year long.

Finally, for those who prefer to wear their devotion, the Harry Potter Shop is offering a butterbeer tankard pin. The pin is available starting today for UK shoppers, but US visitors will need to stay tuned for their opportunity.

All this news has made us thirsty. How will you be celebrating Butterbeer Season?
