UPDATED: Harry Potter Shop Chicago Sets Opening Date; Exhibition Tour Heading to Krakow, Melbourne, and Salt Lake City

by Elyse Maupin-Thomas · March 12, 2025

The Magnificent Mile, a renowned shopping district in the Windy City, will soon be a bit more fit for your magical shopping needs. The Harry Potter Shop Chicago is set to open on April 10, 2025.

As previously reported, the new retail location at 676 N Michigan Avenue is incredibly spacious at 12,000 square feet, and it sounds as though every corner will be put to good use. From a Chicago speakeasy-style Butterbeer Bar at the heart of the store to the Confectionary, visitors will find plenty to sip and savor as they browse. House pride merchandise will, of course, be on sale, and the shop will offer personalization options for robes, Hogwarts acceptance letters, and unique keepsakes from the Room of Wands.

The location will be home to the second House of MinaLima in the United States, featuring some of the best that the famous graphic design duo has to offer, as well as a Chicago-exclusive print. Fans will also find merchandise that pays homage to the store’s location, such as a Wizarding World Chicago bear, a spirit jersey, and more.

There’s plenty of magic in the details as well. The store’s interior is embedded with clever and captivating references to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Fans will recognize the moving mermaid-themed stained glass window from the prefects’ bathroom. Suspended broomsticks, a Golden Egg, and a maze-patterned floor transport shoppers to the Triwizard Tournament. The Goblet of Fire itself serves as the shop’s centerpiece, which guests can ponder while munching exclusive Chicago-themed butterscotch popcorn.

Karl Durrant, the senior vice president of Warner Bros. Discovery Retail Experiences, shared his excitement at the newest retail installment.

We are delighted to be bringing this store to Chicagoland! With the incredible success of the New York flagship store, bringing the Harry Potter world to life on Michigan Avenue was an absolute must. From the shop’s design to exclusive merchandise and a speakeasy-inspired Butterbeer Bar, Harry Potter Shop Chicago is infused with nods to the city’s rich history and unique culture, giving fans a one-of-a-kind experience and unforgettable connection to the wizarding world.

Speaking of one-of-a-kind experiences, Harry Potter: The Exhibition has added a few more stops to its tour. The immersive installment is currently in Boston but will be closing its doors after April 27. In the same month, fans in both Poland and Australia will have the opportunity to experience the interactive displays, activities, and set pieces that bring the world of Harry Potter to life. The exhibition opens in Kraków on April 11 at Alvernia Planet and will run until August 17. Melbourne will be hosting it at the Fever Exhibition and Experience Centre from April 4 through June 9. Tickets are available now.

And American fans who missed out on Boston can have another chance starting May 24. The exhibition will be opening in Salt Lake City at the Shops at South Town. You can join the waitlist now to be the first to hear when tickets become available.

UPDATE (May 17):

Due to popular demand, the exhibition tour’s stop in Melbourne has been extended to August 17, 2025. In a statement (via Australian Arts Review), Tom Zaller, president and CEO of Imagine Exhibitions, called the Melbourne stop the “first and only Australian location,” suggesting no other cities in the country will host the new version of Harry Potter: The Exhibition. (The original version hosted a tour stop in Sydney in 2011 and 2012.)
