UPDATED: Matt Lewis on bringing Neville Longbottom back and “Fantastic Beasts”

by Sophie Reid · February 16, 2015

In a new interview, Matt Lewis (Neville Longbottom) has spoken about meeting up with J.K. Rowling in Edinburgh, Fantastic Beasts, and how much he’d love to bring everybody’s favorite wizard, Neville Longbottom, back one day if he got the chance.

In the interview with Radio Times, Matt spoke about his most well-known character, Neville, and confessed,

If it came to it that I was offered that sort of deal – I want to say I’d consider it – but I’d probably jump at the chance, absolutely! I’m not itching just yet, but I’d absolutely, definitely consider it and love to be considered for it.

Matt further said,

I saw Emma Watson the other day, and we were chatting about Potter, and I realised as much as I miss certain aspects of it, since I finished it I’ve just had such an amazing time.

Matt continued to say, however, that

Potter was an amazing and a unique experience that I was privileged to have been a part of, but I’ve never been as involved with or as proud of a project as I have with Bluestone 42 – I’ve had so much fun being a part of it, so much more than I’ve ever had before as an actor, definitely.

Matt also said he was looking forward to the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film:

I was up in Edinburgh chatting about it with Jo Rowling, and David Yates was there too.

Just knowing that those two are back together again, Jo and David Yates, with [producer] David Heyman – that magical team are together, making these films – it cannot fail to be a success. I can’t wait to see it – and not be a part of it!

Wouldn’t it be great to have Neville Longbottom on our screens again?

For now, we’ll just have to be content with Matt’s upcoming roles. As hinted at in the interview with Radio Times, Bluestone 42, the BBC3 comedy, starts again in March.

UPDATE:  Matt tweeted this morning that a new trailer for the upcoming series of Bluestone 42 has been released. Check it out below:

But if you can’t wait till then, Matt will be a guest star on next week’s episode of BBC murder mystery series, Death in Paradise. The episode will air on BBC1 at 9 p.m. GMT on Thursday, February 19. You can learn more about the episode here, although, warning, there are spoilers for the episode in the article!

Will you be watching Death in Paradise or Bluestone 42? Would you like to see Neville Longbottom return? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
