Press Release

Graphic design studio MinaLima reimagines The Beauty and The Beast for Harper Collins

The Beauty and the Beast is the third book in a series of classics to be illustrated by MinaLima for Harper Collins. This deluxe gift edition of the timeless tale featuring intricate new artwork and nine interactive elements launches on 9 March 2017.

MinaLima, the design studio acclaimed for establishing the entire graphic identity for the Harry Potter films, has created a book which engages audiences by animating the reading experience and reinforces the story’s literary and cultural significance. The vivid new edition is illustrated with full-colour artwork, printed on imitation cloth with gold foil type, and filled with 3-D interactive features.

Originally envisioned by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve in 1740, The Beauty and the Beast has captivated centuries of readers, enthralled by the story of a gorgeous girl imprisoned in the enchanted castle of a mercurial beast.

To add visual depth to this classic fairytale, MinaLima has produced full-colour artwork and nine enchanting interactive elements, which include:

· A trifold map of the affluent French city where the Beauty’s father and his family live

· A fold out that reveals the interior of the Beast’s alluring palace

· A series of flaps that open to reveal different attractions available to Beauty in the Beast’s palace

· A dial of the ring Beauty turns on her finger to return to the Beast and more

The book launch is timed to coincide with Walt Disney Pictures’ film adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Kline, and Ian McKellen.

As part of MinaLima’s ongoing series — and in the style of their Peter Pan and The Jungle Book — this volume appeals to an extensive audience, from nostalgic fans of the original story to new readers. MinaLima’s imaginative vision reinvigorates this romantic classic in an unabridged edition sure to be cherished by book lovers, collectors, and families for generations to come.
