Magical Recipes to Try on International Waffle Day

by Ashley McCann · March 25, 2017

It’s March 25! Do you know what that means? It’s International Waffle Day!

Naturally, we decided to whip up some tasty waffles in celebration of this glorious day – Potter style, of course. In a not-so-creative fashion, we took three of our favorite sweets we wish we could be enjoying in Hogsmeade (Acid Pops, butterbeer, and sherbet lemons) and turned them into beautiful, fluffy masterpieces. We try not to be greedy, so we’ll divulge the secrets to making these bad boys.

To begin, you will need a basic waffle recipe. Pre-made mix will work for Acid Pops and sherbet lemon waffles. To make butterbeer waffles, however, we recommend starting from scratch.

1. Acid Pop Waffles

Eating one of these won’t burn a hole in your tongue, but it certainly might put a cavity or two in your teeth. Here’s how to make these sweet and sour waffles:

Mix your basic waffle batter as you choose, whether it be store-bought or from scratch – make enough for three to four servings. Add one cup of white chocolate chips and as many Nerds as you’d like. The more you add, the tarter the waffles. Mix well, pour into your waffle maker, and let the magic happen! Once the waffle is ready, flop him on a plate and pile on the whipped cream. Top everything with Pop Rocks of your choice and serve immediately.

The best thing about this waffle? The whipped cream activates the Pop Rocks (which is why you serve immediately), so it even sounds acidic!

2. Sherbet Lemon Waffles

This one is definitely a must-try for anyone who loves lemon candies as much as Dumbledore.

Use the same amount of waffle batter as the last recipe. This time, however, add one cup of white chocolate and as much lemon zest as you’d like. We know it’s been said before, but the more you add, the tarter the waffles. Top with whipped cream and more lemon zest.

3. Butterbeer Waffles

For these, we used butterbeer pancake recipe for the batter and just stuck it in the waffle maker instead! Try substituting an actual butterscotch (non-alcoholic) beer instead of cream soda. May we also suggest adding a little vanilla to the recipe to sweeten the deal?

There you have it! Three new waffle concoctions to try while you’re celebrating this excellent day! Which one is your favorite?

If you’re feeling creative, why not give your inner baker some artistic license and make some of your own recipes? Don’t forget to share them with us, though! You can submit them to our ever-growing list of recipes.

Happy Waffle Day!

“I shall expect you and the Slytherins in the Great Hall in twenty minutes, also. If you wish to leave with your students, we shall not stop you. But if any of you attempt to sabotage our resistance or take up arms against us within this castle, then, Horace, we duel to kill.”
