“Cursed Child” Goes Autism Friendly!
There is no doubt that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is one of the most (if not the most) popular stage productions happening today. With shows happening now in London, beginning soon in New York, and coming to Melbourne, Australia, it won’t be long before it takes over the world!
However, sometimes stage shows are not suitable for everyone. Cursed Child is looking to change that.
It was recently announced by the National Autistic Society that an autism-friendly performance of Cursed Child will be happening at the Palace Theatre in London!

Why is something like this needed? Well, sometimes people with autism have sensory issues and become overwhelmed when too much is happening at one time. In an autism-friendly performance, small adjustments are made to the show to be more accommodating to those in the audience who may experience some sensory difficulties.
For instance, reduction of sound levels and lighting, removing strobe lights, and a more relaxed atmosphere with designated “chill-out areas” in the theater can help audience members be able to enjoy the show. Staff and cast members will have also received training to better understand autism.
Cursed Child joins shows such as The Lion King, War Horse, and Gangsta Granny in bringing these relaxed performances to the public.
