Events Roundup: Herbology Classes, a Wizard’s Den, and Winter Festivals

by Aly Kirk · January 1, 2021

Ding, ding, ding! Happy New Year to all our wonderful and amazing readers out there. We know it’s been a tough one, but 2020 is over and you can start 2021 with a fresh new attitude. With that in mind, we have some fun and creative events to kick off January with. Let’s get started.

Hogwarts School Theater Acting Classes

Kids in Grades 1 through 3 are invited to a spectacular learning experience. It’s not your average Zoom class, however. The Hogwarts School Theater, hosted by Child’s Play NY, will teach your kids the basics of acting and creativity. Young witches and wizards will have a chance to practice their improv, writing, and acting skills through original scenes based on the Harry Potter series. The session starts on January 7 at 3:30 p.m. ET. Registration for your tiny witch or wizard in training is $180 per child. You can find more information about the Hogwarts School Theater on the event page online.

Herbology Classes

If acting isn’t your speed and you’re more like Neville Longbottom, then we have the perfect thing for you. The Three Quills in Samford, Australia, is hosting a herbology class for wizards and Muggles alike. Students who attend will be immersed in a magical experience while learning about a variety of plants. Participants will also be able to practice their spell-casting skills and create their own miniature herbology bottles. This class is perfect for witches, wizards, and Muggles of all ages, and all are encouraged to join. Registration is 30 AUD, and the class is scheduled for January 9 at 12:00 p.m. AEST. You can find more information about this class on the event page online.

Winterfest

Winter festivals are a staple of community fun during the winter months. The city of Taylor, Michigan, takes this very seriously. The Taylor Winterfest is in its final weeks, but that doesn’t mean you missed all the fun. Week eight of the festival is from January 7 to 10 and is – you guessed it – Harry Potter–themed. Heritage Park in Taylor, Michigan, is completely transformed to give guests the ultimate winter experience, as if living in Michigan with all that snow isn’t enough winter for residents. Refreshments, alcoholic beverages, and a full ensemble of food trucks are available for Winterfest attendees. For Taylor residents, tickets start at $20 for adults and $10 for kids. Non-resident tickets will be $25 for adults and $15 for kids. Tickets are on sale now for the eighth and final week, so get yours soon. For more information, check out the event website.

Wizard’s Den

The Wizard’s Den pop-up bar is taking over Denver, Colorado, and you’re going to want to be there. You won’t need a Hogwarts acceptance letter to take part in all the fun activities planned for this event. Master your potion-making skills (whether they are for good or evil), enjoy magical cocktails, and cast spells you never dreamed of. When you arrive, you’ll be given a robe and wand, and it’s perfectly fine that it won’t actually be Hogwarts because the ambiance of the entire event will make you feel like you’ve walked right into an actual witch’s home. Tickets start at $40 per person, and the event is strictly 21 and older. The Wizard’s Den will host events starting on January 13 and continuing on specific dates until March 17. For tickets, times, and location information, check out the event page online.

Musical World of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts

Explore the whimsical music of the Wizarding World. With the instruction of music teacher Harriet Rose (who is based in Cardiff, Wales), kids will be able to dive into what makes the musical world of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts so special. While they listen and learn, kids will also be able to unleash their creative sides with music-inspired art creations. The entire event is hosted online, and tickets are on sale now. Prices are £3.83 per person, and the event will take place on January 29 starting at 10:00 a.m. GMT.

That’s all we have for you today, everyone. Enjoy the start of 2021, and be sure to make a resolution to attend more Harry Potter events. It’s good for the soul, after all.

If you’re hosting an upcoming magical event, you can submit it to be included in a future Events Roundup by sending all relevant information to submissions@staff.mugglenet.com.
