“SpeakBeasty” Episode 146: “Manticore Soccer League”

On this episode of SpeakBeasty, hosts Amy, Ann, Geoff, and Marjolaine see what clues can be gleaned from the various signs and text seen in footage from the upcoming Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore film.

With two full-length trailers and a teaser trailer now released, there is much more information to go off of when speculating about what might happen in the third installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise. In this episode, our hosts are looking past the first layer and, instead, zooming into the background of shots from the trailers to see if any information can be found in signs and other written text.

Street and shop signs provide information on where each scene is taking place, from New York to Berlin. In scenes where Albus Dumbledore is walking the streets of New York City, a sign reading Rivington Street places him near Jacob Kowalski’s apartment and bakery. In the first Fantastic Beasts film, the Muggle lived and worked on this real-life street. 

At an event we assume is some sort of rally leading up to the election for the leader of the International Confederation of Wizards, we can see campaign posters for each candidate. The slogans written on those campaign banners give us more information about the candidates and what they stand for. Ann’s eagle eye also spotted what looks vaguely like wanted posters pinned to the wall in this scene.
