“Cursed Child” Broadway to Adopt Shorter Touring Version
In addition to a new cast, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway will introduce a shorter version of the play this year.
This will be the third iteration of the award-winning production at the Lyric Theatre. The original version opened in 2018 as a two-part performance that ran over five hours. Audiences were given the choice to see the show either over two evenings or as an all-day affair. This changed in 2021, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, when a condensed three-and-a-half-hour version was introduced.
This newest rendition has a duration of just under three hours and was first introduced in Chicago last month by the touring production of Cursed Child. Rehearsals are currently well underway for its Broadway debut.

Cursed Child producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender released a statement commenting on the change.
We are thrilled that John Tiffany, Jack Thorne, and the entire original creative team were able to reunite over the last few months to revisit and explore the original material, creating this new version of the show, which now runs under three hours, especially for Broadway. We are incredibly excited to announce that it will soon land at the Lyric Theatre. We were delighted by the ecstatic reception of this new version of our spectacular show when we premiered it in Chicago last month, and we can’t wait to see our extraordinary new cast bring it to life on stage in New York starting in November.
The new version and cast will premiere on the Broadway stage starting Tuesday, November 12. Tickets are available for purchase now.
