Chute 212 wants your ideas for programming!

Last month, we told you about Chute 212, a Harry Potter conference with a focus on theatrics and education, taking place this July in the Bay Area. Luckily all attendees can take part directly in such events because the Call for Programming is now open! Further, Chute 212’s directors are asking you to come up with a workshop, lecture, or discussion topic.

Third grade classroom modeled after Hogwarts to teach values from “Potter”

For a group of young students in New Bedford, Massachusetts, house points are part of the daily routine! Third grade teacher Carolyn Papas has incorporated a Sorting Hat, House Cup, prefects, and Azkaban into her classroom, in hopes of teaching responsibility, teamwork, and leadership. And just like at Hogwarts, students earn and lose house points, and the house with the most points at the end of the year wins the House Cup. We think this is a brilliant idea!

“The Science of Harry Potter” 2014’s Douglas Adams Memorial Lecture

Every year a memorial lecture is held in honor of English writer Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, to benefit the animal conservation group Save the Rhinos. This year one of the topics of the lecture is “The Science of Harry Potter,” presented by Roger Highfield, author of “Can Reindeers Fly?” and “Super Cooperators.” The lecture touches on such items as Floo Powder, Dragons and the Invisibility Cloak among others.

Dumbledore makes appearance in “The Lego Movie”
