The perfect dessert for the sweet-toothed is a treacle tart. A treacle tart recipe involves first making some pastry.
Treacle tart is full of delicious, sweet golden syrup and black treacle. If you can’t find golden syrup, then use corn syrup. Likewise, if you can’t find black treacle, then dark molasses will do.
Preheat oven to 350F (180C).
Place the flour, salt, sugar, and butter in a food processor. Pulse until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. With the processor running, add the water a few drops at a time until the dough comes together. Remove the dough from the bowl and wrap in cling film. Leave to rest in refrigerator for one hour.
Roll out the pastry and line a loose-bottomed tart tin. Place in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, mix together the golden syrup and molasses with the lemon juice. Beat the eggs in a bowl and add to the molasses mixture. Lastly, stir in breadcrumbs.
Carefully pour the mixture into the prepared tart tin.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until the crust and filling are golden brown and firm to the touch.
Serve warm with creme fraiche. It balances really well with the sweetness of the tart. You can also serve with vanilla ice cream.
