Role Call: Lily Potter is Dumbledore’s Daughter?

by Aimee Krenz · May 23, 2014

A teaser poster has been released for director Kenneth Branagh‘s live-action version of Cinderella, which is due to premiere in March 2015 and also stars Helena Bonham Carter. The poster released by Disney last week hasn’t given us much to go off of regarding what to expect from the latest version of Cinderella. You can view the poster below:

In addition to the plain poster, Disney released a short teaser trailer, which gives the tale’s iconic glass slipper an update. You can visit the Cinderella website to learn more and check out the teaser trailer below:

At last Sunday’s BAFTA awards, Jim Broadbent confirmed to Radio Times that he will play the role of Winston Churchill in an eight-part series, but indicated it would be a while before it was released. He also commented on his upcoming film with fellow Potter alumni Julie Walters and Domhnall Gleeson, titled Brooklyn. Says the actor of his costar Gleeson:

You can’t move for seeing Domhnall. It’s great, he deserves it.”

A myriad of stars have been promoting multiple projects while in Cannes, including Emma Thompson. While at the annual film festival, it was announced that the actress had been cast in a World War II period drama called Alone in Berlin. The film will follow a couple trying to survive in Nazi Germany and who ultimately join the resistance after their only child is killed in battle while fighting for Hitler.

Ciaran Hinds, who many Potter fans may not recognize outside of his role as Aberforth Dumbledore, has been cast in the film Wooly Faces. According to Variety, the film was being presented to financiers in Cannes and if picked up, is scheduled to begin production later this year. The film is described as a “coming-of-age story set in West Belfast in 1981 with a mother struggling to keep three unruly teenagers on the straight and narrow while her feckless husband serves time for stealing a milk van”.

Variety reports another role for Helena Bonham Carter to add to her ever-growing list of credits. The actress will portray her own step-great-grandmother, Margot Asquith, in a World War I film called The Guns of August. The film, which is based on a book of the same name, will show “the misunderstandings, missed opportunities and aristocratic follies of the summer of 1914, which led to the outbreak of the First World War”. Production is scheduled for late 2015.

Carter is also slated to begin work in October on the film 55 Steps, which is another project based on true-life events. Carter will play the role of Eleanor Rise, a woman in a psychiatric ward who hires a lawyer to sue the hospital.

While Natalia Tena is still touring with her band, Molotov Jukebox, and filming for her role as Osha in Game of Thrones, the actress has added another project to her plate. Variety reports that Natalia has joined the cast of The Refugees, a science fiction drama which will portray how a small community is affected after millions of refugees from the future travel back in time to seek shelter. The series is set to begin filming this summer, and while it will be an English-language production, it is set to premiere on La Sexta in Spain next fall.

Warwick Davis has once again joined a Christmas panto. For those who are unfamiliar, a panto is a theatrical style, more commonly known as pantomime, a type of musical comedy stage production, designed for family entertainment. The actor confirmed his involvement in December’s production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, where he will star along side Priscilla Presley at the Manchester Opera House from December 6 to January 4.

I am delighted to be appearing with Priscilla Presley in Snow White at the Manchester Opera House this Christmas. I am looking forward to working with the theatre, the cast, and crew to bring you the best panto Manchester has ever seen. It’s a ‘tall order’ but, I’m determined it won’t fall ‘short’ of audience expectations! I’m looking forward to seeing you all there!”

Finally, Sir Michael Gambon‘s upcoming mystery mini-series, Quirke, has released a longer trailer. We previously posted the first trailer, which featured Gambon briefly, at the beginning of this  month. The series, based on the book series called Quirke Mysteries, is set to air its first episode on BBC One this Sunday. Gambon will play Judge Garret Griffin, the father of the titular character and can be seen in the trailer, which you can view below.

Also starring in the series as Judge Griffin’s daughter-in-law, Sarah, is a familiar face: Geraldine Somerville, who portrayed Lily Potter in the HP series. We also get our first glimpse at Brian Gleeson as Sinclair in the first few seconds of the trailer. Brian is the son of Brendan Gleeson, who played Mad-Eye Moody. Check it out!
