Social Roundup: Oscars, Brits, and Leonard Nimoy

by Sophie Reid · March 1, 2015

This week saw extreme highs and lows in the entertainment and film world. The week kicked off with the lavish Oscars ceremony, which saw many of the Potter stars tweeting along and sharing their thoughts on everything – from the speeches to winners, equal rights and to more mundane elements!

This time tomorrow, a lot of people will have a new ornament to put on their mantelpiece

Yes #PatriciaArquette . Yes. ♥ Love you. http://t.co/2CQk7uIeBt pic.twitter.com/SOTZ6VKw1A

— Emma Watson (@EmmaWatson) February 23, 2015

I wonder if anyone will have to breast pump at the Oscars

— Jessie Cave (@jessiecave) February 22, 2015

Passed by @JohnStamos's place, but he wasn't in. Apparently attending the Oscar's was more important… #FullHouse pic.twitter.com/V0CGc0Ktcp

— Luke Youngblood (@luke_youngblood) February 23, 2015

So glad that Birdman won. Now that everyone's been thanked three times I won't have to memorize the credits. Everything was awesome. #Oscars

Emma also expressed her gratitude to Steve Carell, for his #HeForShe support at the Oscars:

And Tom Felton did the good deed of the week:

Today I found a dog in the street so I picked her up and we went on an adventure to find her owner

7 houses later we found her home. Bitter sweet goodbyes. Her name was Prudence x #benicetodogs #iloveherido #dereksays A photo posted by Tom Felton (@t22felton) on Feb 24, 2015 at 1:53pm PST

Meanwhile, Matt Lewis proudly showed off a new car:

But the lads at @globalautocare have hooked me up with some new wheels so I really can't complain. M1 then, is it? pic.twitter.com/lHA19GOHyH

The Brit Awards took place in the UK, and for one singer things did not go so well. J.K. Rowling tweeted her support for pop icon, Madonna, together with a necessary amendment:

Are you the sort of person who gloats when they see a woman fall, or the kind that celebrates a magnificent recovery? #TeamMadonna

— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) February 27, 2015

tweet changed to reflect @chrisrankin's valid point that I appeared to be calling Madonna camp. Very Percy Weasleyish of him 🙂

Finally, for many, the week ended on a sad note, with the death of Star Trek icon, Leonard Nimoy.

Very sad to hear about Leonard Nimoy had the pleasure of spending a few days with him! Such a nice, humble man #RIPLeonardNimoy

— Devon Murray I 🟠 NFTARMY (@DevonMMurray) February 27, 2015

And a tweet from Jon Campling summed up the strangeness of the week:

That’s all for this week – it’s been jam packed with highs and lows. What were your highs this week? Did you watch the Oscars or the Brits?

Potter Quote

“I suggest you both go up to Madam Pomfrey. She is already tending to Miss Fawcett, of Ravenclaw, and Mr. Summers, of Hufflepuff, both of whom decided to age themselves up a little too. Though I must say, neither of their beards is anything like as fine as yours.”
