The Protego Foundation Announces “Wizards of Baking: Take the Vegan Cake Challenge”
The Protego Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes the rights of animals via campaigns that channel the magic of the wizarding world, has announced its latest campaign. Now that Season 2 of Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking is in the works, the Protego Foundation’s “Wizards of Baking: Take the Vegan Cake Challenge” specifically targets Food Network, asking producers to highlight vegan baking on the show.

The campaign has two main aims. The first is incorporating vegan challenges into the show. Despite having a vegan guest judge in the form of Evanna Lynch (who played Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films), the show didn’t include a single vegan bake in its first season. The second goal of the campaign is to showcase vegan bakers: The Protego Foundation is asking for at least one vegan competitor on the show.

Valerie Short, the Protego Foundation’s marketing director, shared how she thinks the show would be “all the more interesting and truly showcase the talent of the amazing bakers” if a plant-based challenge were to be included.
The foundation’s campaigns director, Brittany Drake, also pointed out, “There have been several vegan champions of Food Network competitions… There is nothing more wonderful than creating fantastic gastronomical delights without causing harm to animals or the environment.”
There are two ways to get involved in the campaign. On the Protego Foundation’s website, there is a petition open for signatures. The petition will then be sent to showrunners and producers from both Warner Bros. and Food Network. The Foundation is also asking for the petition to be shared on social media platforms with the hashtag #vegancakechallenge.
If you are a bit of a baker yourself, the second way to be part of the campaign might appeal to you more. The foundation wants to showcase vegan bakes across its platforms and see all of your vegan sweet treats. Pictures of cakes, biscuits, tarts, and any other vegan treat you have made can be sent to the Protego Foundation on Instagram or emailed according to the details on the foundation’s website.
With the success of the show’s first season and the subsequent release of the show’s companion recipe book, Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking: The Official Companion Guide, it’s no wonder that the Protego Foundation has seen the show as an opportunity to spread its messages. With the simple addition of vegan bakes, the foundation believes the show could “demonstrate that delicious confections don’t need animal products to be extraordinary.”
