Stephen Fry wins at the Royal Television Society Awards

Playbill.com reported that well-known British actor and presenter Stephen Fry – known in the Potter world as the narrator of the UK versions of the audio books – attended the Royal Television Society Awards in London on Tuesday evening and scooped up the award for Best Presenter.

He won said award for his television show Stephen Fry: Out There, which showed him traveling the world to see how gay communities are treated in different countries; it aired on the channel BBC2 in the UK. His fellow nominees in the Best Presenter category were Sir David Attenborough for his program Galapagos 3D with David Attenborough and Davina McCall for her program Long Lost Family.

During his acceptance speech, BBC noted that “he paraphrased Winston Churchill, saying, “I think you can judge a civilization by the way it treats its minorities.'”

After winning his award, Fry tweeted,

Additionally, Game of Thrones, which stars Natalia Tena (Tonks) and Julian Glover (voice of Aragog) also gained an award at the ceremony for Best International Program.

Burton and Taylor, which starred Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) as legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor, was nominated in the Best Single Drama category but unfortunately didn’t win. The award instead went to The Challenger.
