New interview with Alfonso Cuaron about “Believe”

Alfonso Cuaron (director, Prisoner of Azkaban) has definitely been in the limelight as of late, especially with his major success during award season for his box-office hit, Gravity. Now, he’s back with his new televison show Believe, which has recently started in the US.

In a new interview, Cuaron explains that although Gravity took a total of four years to create, he still made room to make Believe as well.

“I found myself in a moment on Gravity in which I had a window waiting for the endless process of visual effects. And I wanted to do something, you know?

“I didn’t have the time to make another film but thought it would be great to do a TV show.”

Cuaron teamed up with writer and producer J.J. Abrams – who’s credits include Lost, Revolution, and the recent Star Trek films (He is also the man behind the upcoming Star Wars movie.) – who was thrilled when he was approached to become executive producer on the show.

“I met Alfonso over 20 years ago, and I’ve wanted to work with him ever since,” explained Abrams.

When talking of the type of program he wanted Believe to be, Cuaron admitted that he “wanted to do something in which people were not floating, something really exciting but at the same time, something that would be highly emotional. I mentioned that to JJ [Abrams], and he got very excited.”

The show is about a gifted young girl with special powers, who uses them to help the people she meets. However, she’s far from safe when she is constantly chased by those who hunt her powers.

Believe is due to start in the UK on March 27 on Watch.
