“Fantastic Beasts” Roundup: Catching Up with the Girls

by Sophie Reid · May 30, 2016

It’s been a quiet month in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them world, but we’re back again, bringing you all the latest Fantastic Beasts news and highlights, as well as rounding up everything that we’ve learned recently about the upcoming film.

Actress Jenn Murray, who plays Chastity in the film, spoke about working with Eddie Redmayne.

I worked with Eddie Redmayne on my first day; it was amazing because he was so relaxed and makes it look easy. But then when you really pay attention and you watch someone, he is so gifted; it was really great, and he was so polite and well mannered too.

Murray also spoke about being a J.K. Rowling fan and how much fun it was to be on set.

Yes, well, I’m a J.K Rowling fan. I love books, I love fiction and I love any kind of escapism that’s well written. So to get into that film was amazing. David Yates was a great director, and Colleen Atwood is the costume designer – she’s won three Oscars. You know, you’re just constantly around people who are at the top of their profession. Set, costume, lighting. You couldn’t ask for more.

Pottermore also shared a glimpse into Tina and Queenie’s apartment, shortly before it was pulled apart. Alison Sudol (Queenie) spoke about how the set had given her an insight into Queenie’s character.

I hate to think it’ll be taken apart! I love it in there so much. It gave me insight into Queenie that I hadn’t had before. I’d imagined her life in my head, but to walk around in it was really something: to see what was cooking in the kitchen… it was like being in a friend’s house. You know how you’re like, ‘Oh, wow, okay, that’s so your art, those are your things, you like this kind of butter, or whatever.’ You understand somebody on a very intimate level when you’ve been in their home, and I loved that.

Katherine Waterston (Tina) also spoke about the insight into her character that the set gave her.

It’s so nice to have all the books by Tina’s bed and have that environment that says so much about her. It feels like she lives there. What’s so great about the production team is that you get an idea in your head, and they can manifest it. This is one of my favourite locations of the whole movie.
