Five Things The “Harry Potter” Reboot Can Fix
The eight Harry Potter films were fantastic adaptations of the beloved books. However, there were many things that weren’t entirely faithful to the books. The upcoming Harry Potter TV show will have a longer time to explore the world and its details, and we’re hoping that means they’ll include these important elements that the reboot can finally fix.
1. Include More Subplots
Although the main plot points were included, several had to be cut for time. A TV series format gives the reboot the opportunity to dive into side stories like S.P.E.W. and the full tragedy of Voldemort’s past. Dumbledore’s complicated history with Grindelwald and his own ambitions could also be explored in far greater depth, giving audiences a richer and more nuanced view of the wizarding world.
2. Better Character Development
Several characters, such as Ginny, Tonks, and Lupin, deserved more screen time and a more accurate portrayal of their book counterpart. The reboot is an opportunity for Ginny to be the fierce, funny, and feisty character she really is instead of just Harry’s love interest or Ron’s sister. The same goes for characters like Tonks and Lupin, whose relationship and struggles were glossed over in the movies but could be explored fully in a longer series.
3. Consistent Wizardry
In the books, non-verbal spells were portrayed as a challenging skill, one that only advanced witches and wizards could master after years of training. Yet later in the film series, many characters, even students, were casting spells wordlessly with ease. It broke some of the internal logic of the magical world. A consistent portrayal of magical rules and skills would help maintain the sense of wonder—and difficulty—that magic should have.
4. Include Cut Characters
Several fan-favorite characters were left out of the films completely, including Winky the house-elf, Charlie Weasley, and Peeves the poltregiest. These characters added humor, lore, and important context to the story. Including them in the reboot would not only please fans of the books, but also make the Wizarding World feel fuller and more alive.
5. Showcase More of the Wizarding World
We spent most of the films at Hogwarts, but the books gave glimpses of a much larger magical world. Places like St. Mungo’s Hospital, the Department of Mysteries, and wizarding communities outside of Britain barely got any screen time. The reboot could finally dive into these fascinating corners of the Wizarding World, offering fans a much broader and deeper experience than ever before.
